AMESA KZN REGIONAL CONFERENCE 2018 Theme: Teaching Mathematics for Understanding Mathematics has been and will continue to be the focus of concern in internationally and this include South Africa. But despite the endeavors of various stakeholders, we are still not achieving the results we expect. Countries with limited education budgets such as Botswana, are still achieving greater success in school mathematics. The latter is confirmed by 2015 TIMSS global rankings where South Africa was the second last. It is time that we begin to ask ourselves serious introspective questions. What are we doing right thus far? What do we still need to improve? Perhaps it is only through concerted effort and dedication that we will begin to show some remarkable improvement. Conference Chair: Sthembiso Khanyile 0833299318 sthekhanyile6@gmail.com Academic Programme Director: Busi Goba 0738483377 The AMESA KZN provincial committee gobab@ukzn.ac.za invites you to their annual one day conference. We are hoping that through delegates’ DATE: 19 MAY 2018 interaction with other researchers we will begin to understand some of the problems that are crippling our education system. Our VENUE: UKZN – EDGEWOOD CAMPUS conference theme is aptly titled: Teaching Mathematics for Understanding. The TIME: 08:00—17:00 conference will cater for primary and secondary school teachers and will showcase current research being conducted in SA.
