Hello Lions,

I hope you are having a great
summer! Summer is a busy time
for many clubs with lots of oppor-
                    tunities for fun fundraisers and
                    service projects.I personally enjoy
attending as many of your events
as possible and encourage all Li-
ons to visit other clubs as well. It
is a great way to get new ideas for
your own club and support other
clubs in the district.

In June I volunteered to work with the Eden Prairie
Lions and Eden Prairie Lioness Lions at Schooner
Days. It was a fun helping run bingo tickets and
selling concessions. I am willing to help at your
events when my schedule allows – just let me know
if you need an extra set of hands.

The State Fair is right around the corner! There will
be many several different opportunities to volunteer
at the fair. These include working at the Foundation
Both in the Education Building and doing KidSight
Screens. Please watch for information on these op-
portunities in this and next month’s Informer. Many
clubs also sell ride tickets on the Midway which is a
great fundraising opportunity.

I am proud of all of the hard work the Lions of 5M-
5 put forth in their service projects and Fundraising
events. You all take pride in serving your communi-
ties and it shows! Keep up the Great work!

⭐ LCIF Campaign 100 has concluded! The International goal was met! The total raised was $324,687,263. We can be proud to know
that our district contributed to this historic campaign. At the end of the campaign, the Bloomington Lions gave an extremely generous
donation. Thank you Bloomington and all those who supported the campaign.

clubs! You brought much recognition to our 5M5 District.

District 5 will be screening Wednesday, August 31 and Labor Day, September 5.

You do not need to know how to use the scanner. We need volunteers for greeting the kids
and parents, help with getting consents, giving them the result sheets, and handing out sun-
glasses. The kids love them! Mark your the calendar. If you have any questions, contact us.
Free admission to the Fair compliments of KARE 11 and lots of fun! Volunteer for a shift
or two and then enjoy the fair.
As we start a new Lions year, we look forward to being able to screen again at the preschools
and day care centers. We are also branching out to help elementary school nurses catch up as
some kids have gone without screening the last two Covid years. We are putting screening
teams together because there are often large numbers at each school. If you have interested
in participating let us know. There would be a brief training. It’s really a lot of fun while doing
a great service for the kiddos.

Looking back at the last Lions year we were able to improve our numbers substantially over
the previous year. We screened 2,060 children with 282 referrals. Follow up with parents
continues to be difficult in getting responses from them.

5M5 Lions volunteered a total of 458 service hours in the past Lions year! That is phenome-
nal and we thank you for all your service. The start of the new Lions year can bring new ser-
vice projects for your club.…like KidSight.

District 5M5 Membership: 1,293 (as of 7/20/21).

2022-2023 District 5M-5 Membership Goals:
      1. Every club at least +1 membership on 6/30/23.
      2. Charter at least 1 new club.
      3. As a District, annual member drops will not exceed 132 Lions.
      4. 100% Club LCIF participation.
      5. 5M-5 Membership total of 1,350 Lions.

Each club in the district is asked to set membership goals for Lions year 22-23. Club goal information
was emailed to all Club Presidents and Membership Chairs. It is important for each club to set member-
ship goals, develop an action plan for each of those goals, and communicate those goals to all members in
the club. Membership growth is not solely the responsibility of the membership chair, rather a collective
effort for all members in the club.

LCI Membership Action Plan Template. Use this as a guide to build an action plan for each of your
membership goals. SHARE this plan with all members of your club.

Each club should also have a Membership Chair listed in MyLCI. There are many resources available on
the LCI Club Membership Chair website. Here you will find Club Membership Chairperson Job Descrip-
tion and Club Membership Chairperson Guide. If your club does not have a Membership Chair, consider
stepping up today!

District 5M-5 Global Service Team (GST)
In 2015, Lions set an ambitious goal: to increase our service impact to serve over 200 million people
each year. In 2020, we achieved that goal, but we didn’t stop there!

To effectively tell our Lion’s story, measure our impact, and grow membership, it’s critical that all
clubs report service. Every project we participate in as Lions and Leos, no matter how big or how
small, is valuable in our journey of serving our communities and the world.

For clubs, reporting service is the final step in our service journey. Reporting service can be a point
of pride that can be celebrated and creates a database of great projects done in our communities. Plus,
clubs that report service are eligible for the Club Excellence Award!

5M-5’s goal is 100% club reporting in 2022-2023. This will take work, but it is possible! Your
GST team will work to assist all clubs with reporting. Please know that if reports are not completed,
you will be contacted by a member of the District GST team and offered support. J

   2021-2022 District 5M-5
Percentage of Clubs Reporting in 2021-2022: 68%
      Leos Clubs Reporting 13%
Number of Activities Reported in 2021-2022: 553
Number of people served in 2021-2022: 130,210
Overall volunteer hours in 2021-2022 16,647

Let’s do ALL that we can to grow these numbers for 2022-2023! We got this!

                         https://mnlionschildhoodcancerfoundation.org/home
MNLCCF is pleased to welcome 5M5 director Gary Stevens of the Eden Prairie Lions to the Board.
Welcome Gary, it is a pleasure to serve with you! The Foundation most recently met on July 13,
2022 conducting training and a board meeting.
Update on the activities receiving funding from MNLCCF:
The survivor’s APP: An update was given to board members at the July meeting with Dr. Luci
Turcotte. MNLCCF recently approved another 100K donation in 2022 for this project.
2. Family Match: (The foundation will match a club donation to a family in a cancer journey.)
The foundation would like to increase our message to clubs to find a family and start the connection.
Let’s work on getting all the monies budgeted out to the families in need as soon as possible!
3. KAMP KACE: The budget committee of the foundation has allocated/budgeted for $10,000.00
for KAMP KACE again in 2022. Covid restrictions and considerations are limiting the 2022 camp to
less than one week for the campers. Camp was held in June of 2022, with very limited access for
volunteers. Campers enjoyed their time, and everyone agreed it was a great get back together after a
two-year covid break.

NEW ACTIVITES/ITEMS OF INTEREST FOR THE FOUNDATION:
The Hamel Rodeo is a great partnership!
July 7, 8, 9, 10 involved 5 rodeos. We had directors at each rodeo and spoke with folks about the
funding needs and childhood cancer awareness! It was fantastic to create a new partnership and rope
in on all the fun of the rodeo. Hamel and Corcoran Lions were there working through the hot days
and evenings getting folks their concessions.
One standout highlight included having Dr. Karim Sadek from the U of M, M-Health Masonic Chil-
dren’s Hospital at the rodeo in person. Together we kicked up our heels and shared the foundation’s
message with several interested parents and rodeo fans.
We look forward with this partnership of the Hamel Rodeo in the years to come!
•Please continue to look through our website for current information and resources to strengthen the
clubs work in supporting the amazing work of the MN Lions Childhood Cancer Foundation.
