PRESIDENTS REPORT APRIL 2016
This report brings to a close my monthly President Reports as this time next month you
will have a new President at the helm and hopefully I will be sitting on the Boards back
bench. My only report left to deliver is the AGM’s Presidents Report which will be tabled
at the AGM. Attached to this is a touch of sadness, having considered the car club my
baby, and felt responsible for the direction and performance it has taken and made during
my term. I feel very much the same as I felt when I sold Saab Care, which left an
emptiness that I wasn’t used to, and had no experience on how to overcome it except
ramp up my involvement in another adventure which was Presidency of the car club with
an ambition to have it free of debt by the end of my tenure and restore the categories of
racing that made up the clubs history. However, time marches on and with a new
President comes new ideas and direction.
Events Completed.
German Autos Thornton Off Road Short Course. 5th and 6th March.
The 6 km course held in Kev Pitman’s Property at Thornton, and only a hop, step and
jump further on from Mulgowie was nothing but a huge success. Cars were released
every 30 seconds, so there was constantly a couple of cars in view at all times with having
to negotiate at quite high speeds a reasonably high bank that ramped up onto another
level of the track giving the cars quite a bit of air. There were thirty one entries and eight
classes of vehicles racing which were divided into four groups who all had five heats of
three laps per heat. After each heat they were re-seeded fastest to slowest.
BSCC members, co-ordinated by Margot Knowles staffed the catering tent with Barry
Farrell at the helm assisted by Margaret Rollings, Lenore Wilson, Paul Woodward, David
Nash and Pammy. As I said in last month’s report, they will produce great food which
they did until they completely sold out.
The track, secretarial and timing officials who officiated over the weekend were absolutely
fabulous, and I cannot thank them enough for their co-operation, their willingness to help
and perform in the manner they did, which made managing the event a pleasure.
It would be remiss of me if I didn’t extend a very special thanks to Tait Svenson who
organised this event from day one and guided it to the standard it was on the day.
Personally, I had very little to do with its organisation and I must say, Tait along with Andy
Hickson as secretary and Paul Overall on radio, made my day relatively easy resulting in
many competitors expressing their thanks along with very complimentary and positive
emails being received at the club.
Brisport April 2016 Board Meeting – Strategic Planning – Wednesday 9th March, 2016. This was the first meeting for our new Board Member, John Black. John is the son of Wayne Black a former Queensland Rally Champion in 1979, and a current competitor with his brother Chris as his co-driver. I am quite sure John will be a valuable contributor to the Board. The meeting went extremely well with further items from the Strategic Planning General Meeting in January discussed and implemented. Bunnings BBQ’s Wednesday 16th March, 2016. This one was only an average day with average sales which leaves us with a bit of discontentment for the effort we all deliver. Nevertheless, I guess there has to be some normal days. Thanks to Barry Farrell, Jim Reddiex, Paul Woodward, Belinda Howard, Mike Mitchell and our new helpers Phillip Matthews and Laurie Garth, all who contributed in cooking and selling 240 sausages and 101 drinks. I must say thanks to Belinda who took on the job of supplying mini muffins for smoko which tasted very good as well. Maybe scones for the next one!!! Forthcoming Events SR Automotive Manumbar Rally. Saturday, 2nd April. This event is Round 1 of the 2016 MRF Tyres Queensland Rally Championships and Round 1 of the 2016 MRF Tyres Queensland Clubman and Novice Rally Series which is now ready to rock and roll. The new stage is great and I know it will be enjoyed by all as we haven’t used this stage for many years. AGM Wednesday 6th April, 2016. Same as previous years it will be held at the club rooms so mark down this date in your calendar. We are looking for additions to the Board and for Team Leaders for Committees. Please consider and get your nominations in, if un-decided give me a call on 0414-335-862. Club Night Friday 8th April. Come along and learn how to run a rally. You probably know a fair bit about it anyway, but you may need the finer points which the experienced presenters will share with you on the night. If you have to learn the basic points then this is a must night to attend, and one not to be missed. The night caters for the non-experienced, the reasonably experienced through to the very experienced. See you there.

The constitution is being reviewed by Craig Porter and Neil Michel.
Quote to replace the fluorescent lights and the large storeroom light with LED’s.
Quote is also being sought to install a separate storeroom switch that separates
storeroom and mezzanine lights.
New Members
Since my last report we have had eight new ordinary members, two family members and
two past member re-joins. This is again a very satisfying number and indicates that the
club is moving in the right direction.
To the new members, family members and re-joins listed below I sincerely welcome you,
and I am confident that this club will in every way fulfil your expectations. Please make
yourself known to the Board Members who are listed elsewhere in the magazine and who
would be ever so pleased to help and assist you. If you would like to be a member of
one of our committees please call me as there is definitely room for you to be either a
Team Leader or member.

I remember the corned beef of my Childhood, and the bread that we cut with a knife, When the Children helped with the housework, and the men went to work not the wife. The cheese never needed a fridge, and the bread was so crusty and hot. The Children were seldom unhappy, and the Wife was content with her lot. I remember the milk from the bottle, with the yummy cream on the top, Our dinner came hot from the oven, and not from a freezer; or shop. The kids were a lot more contented, they didn't need money for kicks, Just a game with their friends in the road, and sometimes the Saturday flicks. I remember the shop on the corner, where biscuits for pennies were sold. Do you think I'm a bit too nostalgic? Or is it....I'm just getting Old? Bathing was done in a wash tub, with plenty of rich foamy suds but the ironing seemed never ending as Mum pressed everyone's 'duds'. I remember the slap on my backside, and the taste of soap if I swore. Anorexia and diets weren't heard of and we hadn't much choice what we wore. Do you think that bruised our ego? Or our initiative was destroyed? We ate what was put on the table and I think life was better enjoyed. Author, Unknown...
