Introduction When the school bell rings for the end of the day, many Indianapolis youth are left with few options for positive afterschool activities. Some are at home with no adult care or supervision, not because they do not have great parents/guardians but because parents/guardians must work long hours to support their families. Young people need to know that someone cares when parents/guardians cannot be there. Boys & Girls Clubs offer that and more. Club programs and services help youth understand they matter. The Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow – all while having fun. It is a place where Great Futures are started each day because we’ll do Whatever It Takes. Our Mission Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis (BGCI) believes that every young person deserves to live a life filled with hope and opportunity. Because we care about our young people, we provide a safe, educational and positive atmosphere where they can prosper and reach their full potential. Our Values Youth Centered: We will put kids first by being mindful of the many issues youth face today. We will be supportive; proactive; engaging; passionate; focused; and committed to providing quality services. 2 Ethical: We will operate in an open, honest, and transparent environment. Accountable: We take full responsibility for our actions and performance. We will be reliable, produce measurable outcomes and evaluate our programs. United: We are a team of diverse individuals who work together to accomplish our mission. We will encourage, support, and respect each other. 02
Message from the CEO Dear Friends, It has been a tremendous year for Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis as we celebrated another year of building bright futures! We’ve celebrated with events like Adult Recess, Fore the Kids, and our Youth of the Year Blue Door Gala. I hope you were able to join us for one of the events. For over 127 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis has been providing a safe and nurturing place for young people, if only for a few key hours after the school bell rings. The consistent experience the Clubs offer builds confidence and teaches members life lessons. The Clubs also have given them a voice; it has given them the tools they need to reach their full potential and become positive, productive citizens. At the Clubs, children are surrounded by caring people and given a chance to create meaningful relationships with mentors. No one should be denied a life-changing experience based on their families’ financial status and we hope you believe the same. By donating, you are giving youth the chance to work with tutors, connect with friends and explore, but more importantly, you are giving them a path to be something greater. Now more than ever before, our youth need this opportunity, so please consider donating, as we embark on another year. With your help, Great Futures Start Here! Sincerely, Maggie A. Lewis, MPA Chief Executive Officer 04

“The Club always remained stable when everything else in my life was not. It helped me to defy predictable standards and define my own.” Meet Clara Oesterling 2019-2020 Youth of the Year Clara has been a member of our Keenan-Stahl Club for 14 years and graduated from Southport High School in Spring 2019. They now study at Ball State University pursuing a degree in English Education. Without role model Club members like Clara, our footprint could never carry the same impact in our community as it does. With her words echoing in all our minds, not only do we celebrate their accomplishments, but we thank them for making our Blue Doors that much more open. 18
