NIPPERS & YOUNG GUNS PROGRAM INFORMATION Bancoora Nipper Season 2019/20 The start of the season is only a few months away and preparations for the season are well underway. To ensure the program runs smoothly, we need parents to help run the program and be organised. See the information below for details. AIM: Bancoora’s mozzie & nipper programs are all about fun and aims to teach the children about beach safety and give them some basic surf lifesaving skills. It is the start of your child’s journey to becoming a patrolling member down the track. The aim of this session will be to introduce volunteers to the different activities undertaken by the nippers and to ensure that volunteers have the skills and knowledge to instruct the children in these activities. This induction session is not only for new volunteers and we require the more experienced volunteers to participate and share their knowledge and skills with new members. 12pm – BBQ provided
WE NEED YOUR HELP: Nippers is run entirely by volunteers. The program is run by parents of Nippers. Parents cannot ‘drop and go’ or lay on the beach doing nothing. As a parent and member of the club it is important you are present during the program. Emergency, injury or fright can happen very quickly and you need to be on hand to help. Bancoora SLSC is a small club and needs ALL members to pitch in and get things done. To ensure this season is as successful as can be, we need your help. It is a great example to your children and they love having their parents involved. Don’t leave it to someone else. We are currently looking for volunteers to fill the following positions: • Board activity leader • Swim activity leader • Wade activity leader • Flags activity leader • Education activity leader • Beach Activities leader • Mozzies Coordinator (Filled) • BBQ Coordinator • BBQ helpers x 6 (each week) • Time keeper • Water safety Coordinator • Water safety officers with a current surf lifesaving bronze medallion x 15 (Ratio 1:5) • Age group managers (2 per age group ) • Beach set up helpers x 3 If you are willing to take on any of the above positions, email Craig Sherman (bancooranippers@gmail.com) ASAP so you can take on the job most suited to you. If you can do the same job all season that is great but if you cannot please specify what you can do. A volunteer roster will be on the notice board each week. The nippers program will be of better quality if the coordinator and Committee can focus on the children and not chase volunteers each week. Some other ways in which parents can assist the smooth operation of nippers include: • Being on hand to offer encouragement for your child, or with towels, goggles, sunscreen, wetsuits, warm clothes etc. • Assisting Age Managers setting up an activity. Keep your age manager informed of any issues affecting your child. We will not force your child to participate if they don’t want to, however we are always encouraging children to give everything a go. • If your child is disrupting the group please step in and assist the age manager where required
• Carrying equipment such as boards to the beach or back to the club rooms • Getting your child in the water outside of nippers sessions to practice their skills. • All help is appreciated. Everyone has different levels of capacity to help and we appreciate even the smallest of assistance. TIMES: Arrive at the beach by 10am to sign in and be briefed on the session’s activities Nipper activities will start at 10:30am, and finish at 12:30pm Mozzies (under 6 & 7) start at 10:30am and finish around 11:30am A BBQ with sausages and drinks is available for nippers, young guns and families to enjoy after each session.
