ROCKIN’ READER AEPI ROCK-A-THON · MIZZOU · 2021 https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/aepirockathon D e a r A l u m n i , Fa m i ly, a n d F r i e n d s . . . Every two years the brothers of Alpha Epsilon Pi , Mu Deuteron, come together to plan and execute Rock-A-Thon in support of the fight against cancer. This semester leading up to the 26th Rock-A-Thon has already been a very special one. Excitement fills the air, and the brotherhood is beginning to promote and prepare for the event. We just completed No Shave November where we raised money and showed our support by growing out and embracing our facial hair all month and now we are ready to take on a bigger event. This is a unique opportunity to carry on the most respected tradition and event in our history. This year we are raising money for lung cancer through the American Cancer Society. After raising $102,000 in 2017 and $110,000 in 2019 we plan on exceeding both of those accomplishments for this upcoming Rock-A-Thon. Sadly, every brother of AEPi has a connection to cancer, lung cancer alone has af- fected many. With over 100 members in our organization, we have the manpower and commitment to make this Rock-A-Thon a special one. The tireless planning, from the tri-chairs to everyone else involved, gives me im- mense confidence in this year’s Rock-A-Thon. I am truly impressed by the commitment already shown by broth- ers and I am excited to see everyone canning and fighting lung cancer together this spring. That being said, the brotherhood can only do so much, and this event would not be near as successful as it has been in the past without our alumni, families, and friends from all over. This fight against Lung Cancer is not only a battle for many close to us, but for millions worldwide, which is why this event is so meaningful. This year, while we have been battling Covid-19, we are excited to switch gears towards the fight against lung cancer-with the help of the American Cancer Society and all of the brothers of Alpha Epsilon Pi past and present. A Me s s a g e f r o m the Tri -Ch a i rm en Rock–A–Thon is always an integral time for the men of Alpha Epsilon Pi. It’s a time where brothers come together to fight against a cause that’s bigger than ourselves. During these unprecedented times, people need each other more than ever. Celebrating our 52nd anniversary, we now, more than ever, will come together and triumph during this time of unknown. It all started in 1969, when Jack Fishman and rocker Gary Panitz spearheaded a campaign that would raise $3,205.29 for the March of Dimes. 52 years and over $1,000,000 later, AEPi Rock–A–Thon is the most successful Greek philanthropy in the United States. In 2019, Rock–A–Thon raised $110,000 to support the fight against pancreatic cancer. This year, we are spotlighting lung cancer. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. and world. There have been about 228,820 new cases of lung cancer in the United States in 2020. We hope to continue raising awareness of this deadly disease and fight lung cancer together. As we all know, the world as we know it has become a crazy place. It’s often easy to forget about such a crippling disease when there is a world pandemic taking place. Alpha Epsilon Pi is more dedicated than ever to shed light into what is seemingly a dark world by coming together and fighting against lung cancer. Even through COVID-19, we are continuing to host our biennial golf tournament on. March 14th, 2021.We 2021 are doing everything in our power to make these events as safe as possible while still carrying the spirit Rock–A–Thon holds. Me e t t h e R o c k e r I am extremely ecstatic to be the rocker for Rock-A-Thon 2021. Not only is Rock- A-Thon my favorite event we do as a brotherhood, but Rock-A-Thon is one of the most important events we do as a brotherhood. Rock-A-Thon is a time where all the brothers come together as one and make a positive impact on many people. This year’s focus will be Lung Cancer - the 2nd most common cancer for both men and women - making this year that much more important. I can hardly wait to rock and am counting down the days till I can join the incredible people who rocked before me. When I first heard about Rock-A-Thon, my brother Daniel described it as one of the proudest moments of his life. Upon hearing this, I knew I wanted to be very in- volved one day. Like many others, I’ve been affected by cancer. My Great-Grandma Gertrude luckily survived skin cancer and my Aunt Amy is a breast cancer survivor. Unfortunately, my Grandma Judy sadly passed away from brain cancer. All of this shows why I feel the fight to end cancer is that important and why I am more than ready to sit in the rocking chair for 63 hours for everyone that has been or will be affected by cancer. I hope that with your support, we can make a difference and get that close to the end of cancer. It doesn’t matter if we raise $100 or $100,000, anything helps. I’m thrilled to be a part of such incredible philanthropy and look forward to continuing the rocker legacy. Brian Carter Rocker, Rock-A-Thon 2021 Lookin g Fo rwa rd ... Brothers, Alumni, Family and Friends, our names are Nate Brenner, Ethan Doyle, and Josh Thorpe. We are so excited and honored to be sophomore apprentices for Rock–A–Thon 2021. After being selected by Evan and Jacob last year, we never could have expected what an amazing journey this would become. Whether it’s aiding in committee meetings, strategizing our social media presence or communicating with alumni, we are learning so much, and feel more prepared everyday to go headstrong into 2023.
