PROJECT X THEATRE IS HOLDING GENERAL AUDITIONS FOR X FEST 2019 & THE RIVERTOWN PLAYERS! Project X Theatre is seeking submissions from actors and musicians for their upcoming 2019 season. The company is casting for roles in both 2019 X Fest productions as well as for The Rivertown Players (a partnership with the Kamloops Arts Council). All auditions will be considered for both X Fest shows and The Rivertown Players, unless performers indicate otherwise. Project X is committed to diverse, inclusive casting and will consider all submissions, without regard to age, disability, ethno-cultural identity, or gender. X Fest 2019 will once again feature two family-friendly classic stories with modern twists. Actors will be engaged under professional contracts, either part-time (1 show) or full-time (both shows or Rivertown Players). Members of CAEA will only be considered for X Fest and will be engaged under a D.O.T. Agreement. Casting in The Rivertown Players is contingent on the Kamloops Arts Council receiving Canada Summer Jobs funding. New Rules This Year: All Canadian citizens or landed immigrants under 30 years of age are eligible for Canada Summer Jobs funded employment positions, whether they are in school or not. Successful audition applicants are asked to prepare: • A scene from SHOW #1 (Provided with audition confirmation) • A song (2min in length). An accompanist will be provided, please bring music for them. • For performers who play instruments, please bring a piece to play (No longer than 2min) • For SHOW #2 you’ll be asked to improvise a scene with a provided rod/bunkaru style puppet. Auditions: Saturday, March 2, 2019 Location: Classroom at the TRU Actors Workshop Theatre (Old Main Building) *If this timing or location does not work for you, video auditions will also be accepted. Interested performers are asked to submit a current headshot and artistic resume to Dušan Magdolen, Artistic Producer, at dusan@projectxtheatre.ca by 5pm February 25, 2019. All materials should be submitted as a PDF with the subject line: X Fest 2019. In the email please indicate whether you are auditioning for SHOW#1, SHOW#2, and/or The Rivertown Players. You will then be given an audition time on March 2, 2019, as well as a group dance call time, unless you are only auditioning for SHOW #2 and/or The Rivertown Players. X FEST SHOW #1 The first production is a wild musical comedy that will require an ensemble of performers to sing, move, and in some cases, play multiple characters. We are also looking for musicians with little or no acting experience, and actors who play instruments. This production will be directed by Tracey Power. Rehearsals: 2-10pm on June 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, 27, July 1 (Canada Day 8am – 4pm), 2, 3, 6, 11, 13, 15, 17 & 18. Performances: At 7pm on July 15 (Preview), 17 (Preview), 18 (Opening), 20, 22, 24, 25, 27, 29, 31, August 1 & 3 (2pm PWYC & 7pm). X FEST SHOW #2 The second production is a brand new work by Kamloops’ own Randi Edmundson, which heavily features puppets and includes songs and whimsy. Performers will be asked to puppeteer, sing, and inhabit multiple characters, while at least one performer will need to play an instrument. This production will be directed by Mika L Laulainen. Rehearsals: 2-10pm on June 20, 21, 22, 28, 29, July 1 (Canada Day 8am-4pm), 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 12, 16, & 19. Performances: July 16 (Preview), 19 (Opening), 20 (2pm PWYC), 23 (5&7pm), 26 (5&7pm), 30 (5&7pm) & August 2 (5&7pm). THE RIVERTOWN PLAYERS Each July & August, the Kamloops Arts Council’s Rivertown Players present accessible, free family-friendly theatre performances throughout Kamloops and area. Performing live five days a week, the troupe writes, directs, and performs their own original productions. The Rivertown Players will be produced by Project X Theatre and will be exposed to workshops by various theatre professionals in different disciplines. Contract Dates: 30 hours a week from May to Aug (14 weeks total) **Contracts will be subject to funding from Canada Summer Jobs** 3 Available positions: *Actor/Director *Actor/Stage Manager *Actor/Community Engagement Coordinator X FEST 2019 ! TRACEY POWER Tracey has worked across Canada and internationally as an actor, playwright, director and choreographer. Locally, for Western Canada Theatre, she was the Director/ Choreographer of Elf The Musical, Playwright/ Choreographer of GLORY which will tour BC and Ontario starting in March, as well as acting in UBUNTU and Les Miserables. For the Caravan Farm Theatre she acted in The Gift of the Magi and A Christmas Carol. Outside of Kamloops she recently performed in UBUNTU for Prairie Theatre Exchange/Citadel Theatre, she choreographed the Arts Club’s ONEGIN and is the director/choreographer of Chelsea Hotel, The Songs of Leonard Cohen, which has played over 300 shows across Canada. Currently she's organizing the All A'Broad Cabaret on March 8 for WCT to celebrate International Women’s Day, and co-creating the new musical Hey Viola! starring Krystle Dos Santos, about civil rights icon, Viola Desmond, which will have its first reading on March 7th with WCT. She is the recipient of the Betty Mitchell, Sterling and Jessie Richardson Awards for her work and is very much looking forward to working with Project X this Summer. www.traceypower.ca MIKA LAULAINEN Mika Laulainen is a freelance director based in Vancouver and on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples. She holds a BFA in Theatre, with a specialization in directing from the University of Victoria. She has further trained in directing at Directors Lab North, Directors Lab West, the Womens Directing Intensive at the Banff Centre, and in directing ensembles with Movement Theater Studios in New York and she has further trained in puppetry at the Banff Centre with The Old Trout Puppet Workshop. Recent credits include Anne of Green Gables (Ozark Actors Theatre), Precious Little (star star theatre), and Randi Edmundson's Kolejka, a puppet folktale (Upintheair Theatre). Mika can't wait to direct some more talented puppets (and people!) at X Fest 2019. www.mikalaulainen.com The X Fest 2019 shows will have their public announcement at the Project X Theatre Fundraising Dinner Event on Monday, March 4 at On the Rocks Pub. However, those auditioning will find out the shows on March 2, 2019 and will have the opportunity to decide whether they want to audition for one, both, or neither shows at that time. X FEST 2019 !
