  594,000
• Achieved most recommendations
• Recognize that it’s time to review
Facility Model for Brampton Library
                  • The facility model defined in the 2007 Master Plan Update (a centralized system consisting
of a central library and district branches) should continue to be used to guide the Brampton
Recommenda)on Library’s long-term infrastructure planning.

                  • No Central Library as of yet
                  • Branches/Interim sites range from 3,000 to 43,500 sq ft
Actual • 3 new builds and 1 major renovation; closing of interim sites

                  • Per capita and square footage targets may not be achieved and can be impacted by
community specific needs, funding and partnership opportunities
Lessons Learned • Ex: Springdale Branch – Library, Park and Splash Pad – “Destination”
Space Requirements
                  • A standard of 0.6 sq 5 per capita remains appropriate as a long-term target for the Brampton
                    Library’s space needs.
                  • Branches to be 30,000 sq 5 in size; +/- 5,000 sq 5.
Recommendation
                  • A service radius of 3km for each branch library.

                  • BL is in a deficit situation; in 2011 – average of 0.25 sq ft per capita
                  • 4 original branches (12,750 - 43,500 sq ft), 2 interim sites (3,000 sq ft)
Actual • Mount Pleasant Village (22,000), Gore Meadows (30,000), Springdale (25,000)

                  • No longer building 30,000 sq ft buildings – remains aspirational, but not practical
                  • Need to explore opportunities for partnerships with City or other organizations
Lessons Learned
                  • Need to consider alternate forms of library service to increase visibility and presence – kiosks,
                    storefront, vans
