Mount Vernon Parks & Enrichment Services Department Registration & Refund Policies Registration Policy Pre-registration required. Complete payment MUST accompany registration. Program sizes are limited, and registrations are taken on a first come first served basis. Programs may be cancelled due to low registrations or inclement weather; or combined to attain sufficient enrollment. Please register early. Refund Policy The Mount Vernon Parks & Enrichment Services Department reserves the right to cancel, reschedule, or combine activities as needed. A full refund will be issued if the Mount Vernon INSTRUCTORS WANTED! Parks & Enrichment Services Department cancels The City of Mount Vernon Parks & a program. Mount Vernon Parks & Enrichment Services Department Volunteer Programs Pitch-In for Parks & Trails Working together as a community to clean up and beautify a local park is a healthy way to sneak in some exercise, fresh air, and goodwill! Host a Pitch in for Parks Event Does your business, club, social group, or organization want to give back to the community and beautify our local parks? We are looking for groups to “host” a pitch in for parks event by selecting a date, a project, and providing at least 6 volunteers for a 2-4 hour period. Your event will be open to the public to join in and help out, and the name of your group will be listed as the hosts of the event. Volunteerism makes a huge impact in our parks, and we appreciate your willingness to help out! Email mvparks@mountvernonwa.gov to set up your event! Mount Vernon Parks & Enrichment Services Department What‘s New in Parks RULES OF ENJOYMENT! The Parks Municipal Code has been updated prompting new park rules signs to be installed in the parks. Some important changes to be aware of: Park hours have changed, parks are no longer open from dawn to dusk. Operational hours have been defined based on the time of year. The new park hours are April 1st – October 31st, 6:00 AM-10:00 PM and November 1st – March 31st, 7:00 AM-7:00 PM. All City parks and trails are tobacco-free zones, no smoking or vaping allowed. Young Lungs at Play signs will be posted at all playgrounds. Opening or consuming marijuana or alcohol is not allowed in a city park. We appreciate your help keeping your parks safe. Activity Guide Fall/Winter 2023-2024 25th Street Park Improvement A BIG THANK YOU to Leadership Skagit and the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club for teaming up to provide additional improvements at 25th Street Park. A team from Leadership Skagit adopted 25th Street Park as their project and partnered with the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club to help fund some of the additional improvements. The Leadership Skagit group assisted staff with a lot of the work and coordinated donations from Peace Health, Skagit Soils, and Urban Forestry Services/Bartlett Consulting for soil, plants, and trees for the new landscaped bed that was installed. The Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club provided the funds for a new soccer goal, a new picnic table and bench, and new fencing behind the soccer goal. Leadership Skagit Group Members: Bennett Massey-Helber, Aeriel Corey, Grant Lee, Jenna Blade, Laura LeBrun, and Orlando Macias. Hillcrest Park Improvement This Fall work will begin on upgrading the southeast corner of Hillcrest Park to a new irrigated regulation size soccer field. Staff will do the project in-house and is excited to build this much needed field for the community. This improvement will provide an additional playfield for all levels of soccer and other sports activities. The field should be ready for use in Spring of 2024. 21
