11th April 2021 2nd Sunday of Easter Thank You We have received many comments on how moving and prayerful people found the Easter liturgies. It certainly was a special few days as we celebrated the Easter Tri-duum. I was delighted by how many people attended the liturgies beginning with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday. The Masses on Easter Sunday were overwhelmingly full with many younger families in attendance. It reminds us that the risen Christ is still at the heart of many people’s lives. I would like to thank everyone who helped with the Easter liturgies. This involves a great deal of preparation and effort and good liturgy can only be celebrated through the generosity and gifts of so many people. Our Churches and grounds also require a great deal of work for these big occasions and I sincerely thank all those who had our Churches and grounds looking at their best for Easter. Nominating Laity for Diocesan Pastoral Day The Diocese is holding a Pastoral Day from Friday evening 18 th June to Saturday 19th June in the Diocesan Centre in Palmerston North. The theme of this Pastoral event arises from Pope Francis’ call for us to be a ‘church of missionary disciples’. It is an opportunity for people to gather with others in the Diocese to explore what that means for us and our mission. If you would like to find out more about this Diocesan Pastoral Day or wish to consider attending please contact either myself or Sister Helen. First Sacraments Programme We are currently planning the First Sacraments Programme (Reconciliation and First Holy Communion) for 2021. You may remember that we could not celebrate the sacramental programme in 2020 because of the COVID-19 lockdown. We need people who are prepared to help with this programme. If you are a teacher, a parent, or a parishioner and would like to help, please contact Sister Helen at the Parish Office. We cannot offer the sacramental programme without this assistance.
