Simon de Senlis Primary Weekly Update – 25th June 2021 Dear Parents and Carers, We have had another wonderful week at SdS. On Wednesday, three coaches arrived at school to take Year 1 to Woburn Safari Park,Year 4 to Muddy Education and Year 5 to Twycross Zoo. On Thursday Reception left school for their exciting day at West Lodge Farm. After 16 months of not being able to visit education centres such as these, it was a joy to see the excitement and happiness on all of the children’s faces across the year groups as they left school. Each and every child had a wonderful time and developed so many skills- independence, resilience, co-operation- and were then able to return to school and home being able to re tell stories of their day and the new knowledge they had learned. In addition, wonderful memories were built of their day out from school!! On Tuesday, Year 4 experienced their virtual tour of the National Gallery (after their visit to the gallery had to be cancelled) and were able to see many different paintings, getting to know more about them. Next week, we continue enabling the children to take part in new experiences as Year 2 will visit Woburn Safari Park and Year 3 will visit Irchester Country Park. As a whole school, we are also looking forward to next Tuesday as we all will be watching the RSC virtual school’s performance of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. We can’t wait to see Year 3 within this performance!! Well done everyone at SdS! Please enjoy the weekend and I look forward to seeing you all next week. Mrs Fennelly

Simon de Senlis Simon Primary – Weekly de Senlis PrimaryUpdate Issue #1 Ways to support your child with transition It’s that time of year again where we start to think about children moving on to a new year group or transitioning to a new school. This can be a time of great excitement but also may cause some anxiety for children as they can have some worries around the changes ahead. Over the coming weeks the teachers will be talking to the children about their transitions and there may be some children who will need a little extra support with this. One strategy we use in school is ‘red and green thoughts’ and this is something you can do with your child at home about any worries they may have regarding the changes ahead. This is a very simple strategy which can be used for a range of worries to help build resilience and problem solving skills.
Simon de Senlis Simon Primary – Weekly de Senlis PrimaryUpdate Issue #1 Ways to support your child with transition A red thought is the worry that your child has and the green thoughts are the positive steps to counteract this. For example a red thought may be, “I won’t know my new teacher.” and the green thoughts could be: • All of my classmates will be with me and they are meeting them for the first time too. • I moved class last year and I had a new teacher and everything was ok. • My new teacher will get to know me and I will get to know them. Everything will be ok. If your child has any particular worries about transition please speak to their class teacher in the first instance or a member of the pastoral team. Many thanks, Mrs Holland
