Westfield Bank Sunday Night Concert Series Concerts begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Beveridge Pavilion, weather permitting and are free to the public. Food Service provided by Greater Westfield Western Hampden County MRC, Inc. & Greater Westfield C.E.R.T. Chairs will be available. Please check our website, www.stanleypark.org June 5 Eight To The Bar Listening to “Eight to the Bar” is a lot like driving along a time-warped highway precisely halfway between Count Basie’s Kansas City and Fats Waller’s Harlem, where the car radio picks up everything from Jumpin’ at the Woodside to the Andrews Sisters. Their material, like their outlandish wardrobes and onstage choreography, is a colorful mix of forties jazz and swing, fifties jump blues, and some of their own swing-influenced tunes. With their female and male vocals, saxophone (their sax player, Collin Tilton, is Van Morrison’s original sax and flute player who played on Morrison’s quadruple-platinum selling Moondance album), guitar, bass, keyboards and drums, this unique sextet pack a musical and visual wallop not seen in New England since the group’s inception in 1975. Since that time, they have released 12 CDs and have excited audiences from Europe to the Caribbean. Currently the group is working on its 13th CD. June 19 Good Acoustics Their acoustic-style covers span hits from the 1950’s through today with an emphasis on the 70’s, 80’s, & 90’s. Additionally, ‘Good Acoustics’ also offers a tribute show to Simon & Garfunkel and James Taylor. They perform all the Simon & Garfunkel favorites including Sounds of Silence, The Boxer, Mrs. Robinson, Homeward Bound, Cecilia, America, and many more, as well as the beloved hits by James Taylor such as You’ve Got a Friend, Fire & Rain, Mexico, How Sweet it Is, Shower the People, and Carolina in My Mind, just to name a few. This show is not to be missed! July 10 Union Jack Featuring the look and sounds of the 1960’s British Invasion era, “UnionJack” takes you back to the days of The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks, Hollies, Searchers and the many others that followed these great groups. A five-piece band, “UnionJack” was one of Western Mass’ original “tribute” bands formed in 1979. After years of performing with other bands, UJ’s members reformed in 2002. The current lineup features Gary Wilkinson, (guitar, vocals), Dave Lempke, (drums, vocals), Jim Brown (guitar, vocals), Peter Schindelman, (bass, vocals), and Greg Mitchell, (Keyboards). Wilkinson’s lead vocals on classic Beatles’ tunes have always been the band’s strength, along with some great material and more than a little bit of humor. “UnionJack” follows the history of the British Invasion from the early days of “Beatlemania” through the end of the decade. In addition to those mentioned above “UnionJack” also features tunes by the Animals, Yardbirds, Badfinger, Dave Clark 5, Gerry & the Pacemakers, and many others. July 17 Gunsmoke Gunsmoke has been entertaining audiences at fairs, festivals, clubs, private parties and concerts with classic country, western swing and rockabilly music for over 25 years. The Nashville recording artists have six albums recorded and have performed on the world famous Ernest Tubb’s Midnight Jamboree in Nashville, TN following the Grand Ole Opry. Gunsmoke began as a family affair, formed by Nick DeMaio Jr. who plays bass and sings lead vocals, and his younger brother Jeff, who plays Pedal Steel guitar. Current members include their children, Nick DeMaio III on drums, Rebecca DeMaio on vocals and saxophone, and Christina Mae on vocals, who continue the traditional sounds of country music as the next generation. The dazzling lead guitarist Van Manakas shines with his musicianship helping to make this band a class act. The stage was shared for many years by 3 generations of family with Nick and Jeff’s father, Nick DeMaio Sr., affectionately known as “The Ambassador,” as guitarist and singer. He passed on a lifelong passion for country music that is evident at every live Gunsmoke performance. They are a group of talented musicians who love sharing the music they were raised on. Gunsmoke is enshrined into the Connecticut Country Music Hall of Fame, the Country Music and Dance Hall of Fame in Mount Kisco, NY, and elected band of the year six years in a row by the New York Metro Country Music Association. They have performed for two sitting Presidents of the United States and received a citation from the state of Connecticut commemorating the band’s silver anniversary of 25 years entertaining audiences with classic country music. The family band continues to entertain audiences throughout the tri-state area with their traditional country western sound. July 24 Sweet Hitch Hiker Sweet Hitch-Hiker is a Tribute Band made up of 4 talented musicians which all grew up listening to the music of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Our group is dedicated to the music of this Americana rock band. There is no other Rock n Roll Band that has influenced more musicians, and is loved by millions of people worldwide. Their songbook has become such a deep part of American Rock & Roll. The members of Sweet Hitch-Hiker have recreated a slice of the timeless musical catalog of CCR as well as staying true to the spirit of the original recordings. We hope you enjoy our efforts! And support us on our never ending journey of bringing you the best product we possibly can!
July 31 The Skid Marks Do you remember drive-ins, poodle skirts, bobby socks, hula-hoops and 45 rpm records? Do you remember when you could actually understand the lyrics of a song as well as dance to the beat? The Skid Marks have been entertaining festivals and audiences across the US for over ten years with all those wonderful hits from the 50’s and early 60’s. They bring freshness to the tunes you remember. They captivate their audiences and transport them back to simpler times. August 7 The Eddie Forman Orchestra “The Eddie Forman Orchestra”, also known as “E.F.O.”, is a Western Massachusetts polka band that has been performing since 1968. People of all ages are invited to join the E.F.O. to enjoy a fun filled evening of good music. August 14 The Eagles Experience THE EAGLES EXPERIENCE is the most authentic tribute show to the Eagles on the road today. Every member of THE EAGLES EXPERIENCE is dedicated to presenting their part as accurately as possible, and will provide you with an ultimate “Eagles Experience” you will not soon forget. July 8 Tom Stankus as T-Bone presents: Camp Muckalucka T-Bone is affectionately known to his audiences as “America’s musical Pied Piper”. He has performed for thousands of people throughout the United States since 1972. Maybe it’s the child in him that enables T-Bone to connect so well with his audiences or the fact that he has the energy of a runaway freight train. Whatever the reason, and before his audiences realize it, they are clapping, singing and dancing at T-Bone’s shows. This is “full contact” entertainment at its best and a show your community won’t soon forget! For more info visit his website www.t-bonemusic.com. The kids are the stars because they make the magic happen. He doesn’t just “do a trick”, he tells a story that revolves around each trick. It may be a short story or a longer one, but each story helps to bring the trick together. Every child who comes on “stage” to be a helper receives a souvenir! Kathy and her husband Myles began birding in 1990 and not long after that they became active in the Allen Bird Club. They lead numerous trips for the club, and have traveled extensively to go birding. Kathy is also an avid gardener and plant lover, and enjoys “botanizing” while birding. May 15 - Sunday - “Spring Wildflowers” with Dave Lovejoy 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m This casual walk will go through several of the habitats in the Sanctuary along the Little River and will focus on wildflowers, many of which will be in full bloom around this time. Both native and naturalized species will be observed with the possibility of seeing about 30 species. A field guide might be helpful to have along, but is certainly not necessary. Dave Lovejoy is a professor of Biology at Westfield State University and is the Treasurer of the Springfield Naturalists’ Club. We may encounter as many as 50 different species, including thrushes, vireos, and warblers. Bring binoculars if you have them. Janice Zepko has a master’s degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation from the University of Massachusetts. She is active in the Allen Bird Club of Springfield, serving as Field Trip and Publications Chair and participating in a variety of annual censuses that monitor bird migration and breeding populations. September 18 - Sunday - “Stanley Park Trees” with Dave Lovejoy 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Taking the time to learn a half-dozen kinds of deciduous trees will make it possible for the hiker to identify most of the common ones seen in the woods (a few more are likely at the edge of a woodland). We should see all of these on our walk including a few evergreen trees and perhaps will focus on other plants depending on the interests of the group Homeward Vets Donation Drive MAY 7, 2022 from 8:00 am – 12:00 noon Save the Date!!
