COMPANY INFORMATION The Dance Collective is Perth’s premier dance training centre and performance company. We aim to transform people of all ages and abilities into talented dancers. Award-winning director Charisse Parnell leads an outstanding team who provide teaching of the highest quality in Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet, Lyrical, Acrobatics, Heels, Breaking, Commercial, Dancehall and Jazz Funk. Our choreographic and teaching team include industry profession- als who work and continue their training with world class artists within Australia and abroad. The warm, positive and friendly vibe that exists within our studio is created because teachers and dancers are encouraging and supportive of one another. The Dance Collective has a reputation for supplying performances and workshops of the highest quality for numerous event management companies, government bodies and corporations. We also supply teachers and choreographers to primary schools, high schools and private studios who wish to enhance their dance programs. In addition, The Dance Collective also acts as an agency for artists, supplying choreographers and dancers for corporate events, children’s character shows, the television and film industry and print media. A mirrored warm up room is also available for dancers to warm up and practice before class. TDC Production House 26 Parkinson Lane, Kardinya Located only 1km from The Dance Collective, TDC Production House is a creative hub for production of all types. Housing a main studio, costume lab, editing suite, dressing room and viewing platform, TDC Production House is vibrant centre where collaboration between artists (actors, directors, dancers, choreog- raphers, videographers, makeup artists, hair stylists and costume designers) can create content for events, social media, advertising, film and television. OUR MANAGEMENT TEAM Director - Charisse Parnell Charisse has danced and choreographed professionally for TV commercials, films, fashion parades, opening ceremonies and corporate shows, including Guy Sebastian, The Veronica's, Jessica Mauboy, Tim Campbell, the WA Youth Awards, StyleAid, Oasis Ball, Gold Plate Awards, Telethon, summer camps in New York as well as adjudicating festivals, talent shows and breaking competitions. Her training in Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Tap and Ballet includes the Contemporary Dance Centre (Perth), Broadway Dance Centre (New York) and Pineapple Studios (London). Charisse holds a Bachelor of Arts (Marketing and the Media), a Diploma of Education (Primary Teaching) and has won state-wide awards in recognition of the highly successful dance program she coordinated at Rossmoyne Senior High School from 2002-2006. As well as directing TDC, Charisse has lectured at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and the University of Western Australia, written for the Curriculum Council, delivered professional development workshops for teachers across WA and worked as a TEE marker and consultant for the Department of Education and Training. In 2011, Charisse was nominated for Australian of the Year – Local Hero Award and in 2012 the Western Australian of the Year “Community Category” for creating The Dance Collective as “a safe haven and an outlet; a place where young people can go to escape the stressors that early life can bring and transform it into something positive in a physical, psychological and social sense” (Weng Ho, Rio Tinto, nominee). Senior Beg+/Int (approx. 2-3 years experience) For high level Beginner dancers and Intermediate dancers who have some experience and are seeking to de- velop their technique and master the fundamentals. Senior Intermediate (approx. 3-5 years experience) For dancers who have mastered the fundamentals of the style, have a reasonable amount of technique and are aiming to enhance their bodies capability and ability to express forms. Intermediate+/Advanced (5+ years experience) For higher level Intermediate dancers and Advanced dancers who are looking towards picking up and perform- ing choreography at a professional level. Advanced (approx. 7+ years experience) For dancers who have vast experience and strong technique with the ability to pick up and perform choreography at a fast and professional level. * Please choose your levels wisely. We have catered for all levels. If you are unsure as to which level to enrol in, please contact our studio to discuss. * It is at TDC’s discretion to allocate dancers to classes most suited to their abilities. OPEN WEEK Family and friends are invited to watch our class progress at the end of term. Dancers are also encouraged to watch classes of different styles and levels to get inspired and see what’s happening at TDC. For Junior Company classes, viewing is for the final 15 mins of class and for Teen Company and Senior Company the full one hour class. We commence Open Week the Friday before the last week of term to cater for families who start their holidays early. Specific open week dates for all classes will be released during the term. 5

ANNUAL & CLASS FEES ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP FEE An annual membership fee of $40 per dancer is charged to all dancers per calendar year on commencement of classes to cover administration, insurance and music licensing costs. • Fees must be paid at time of enrolment to secure CLASS FEES 30min 45min 60min your place. END OF YEAR PRODUCTIONS While we remain in the midst of a pandemic, it is impossible for us to set in stone what 2021 will look like. We will however plan for an end of year production, whether that be a showcase in TDC Production House, concert in a the- atre or making films. PRODUCTION FEES The estimated fees associated with our end of year productions are listed below. As plans are made during the year we will keep our families updated. *Fees are subject to change. PRODUCTION LEVY $50 per dancer (Junior, Teen & Senior Companies) Includes music licenses, extra rehearsals, copy of music, concert t-shirt (part of concert uniform) and program. COSTUME HIRE TDC provides a full service to ensure there is very little for parents and dancers to do. There is no sewing of sequins here! This hire fee contributes towards: sizing, styling/designing, sourcing and purchasing, altering, maintenance, cleaning, organising and sorting costumes. Dancers will be required to provide their own stockings, boy leg shorts and any other garments considered as underwear for their costume. All dancers will need to supply their own white sneakers/sandshoes as part of their concert uniform. JUNIOR SHOWCASE - $50 per class TEEN & SENIOR PRODUCTION - $60 per class TDC will transport all costumes and props Teen and Senior dancers will be supplied with a TDC costume to the venue. Full supervision is provided so bag and coat hanger. Dancers will receive their costumes in that parents can enjoy the show. the weeks leading up to their concerts and are responsible for bringing their costumes to the concert venues. HD VIDEO PRODUCTION USB $30 - one charge per family per production TDC concerts are filmed and edited professionally and supplied to each dancer on a branded USB. This allows performances to be viewed from a laptop or TV and can be easily shared with family and friends who are unable to attend. VOLUNTEERS Volunteers are a valued and integral part of our company’s operations. Throughout the year we call upon volunteers to help with concert preparation, prop production and costume organising and washing. Volunteers are generally our current and past dancers and their participation forms a great sense of community within our studio. OVER 50s YOGA TDC offers weekly Over 50s Yoga classes. These classes calm the mind, give bodies a good stretch and provide a beautiful sense of connection and community. If you look the part, you will dance the part. No school uniforms. • Classes are not open for viewing. Parents and friends are invited to watch the final classes in Terms 1, 2 & (Open Week). • Turn your phone to silent in class and do not check your phone. Immerse yourself in dance and switch off from the outside world. • Remove all jewellery – we don’t want anything broken or for you to injure yourself or others in class (watches and fitbits included). • If you are late to class quietly make an apology to the teacher before joining the class and ensure you stretch and warm up to prevent injury. • Change into your dance shoes after you arrive. • Arrive to class having practiced your choreography from the week before. • Be encouraging and friendly to those around you. • Junior dancers are not to leave the studio without a parent or guardian. • Act with respect, care and concern towards others. • No chewing gum in class. • Stand up straight, nod and be attentive. Beware of negative body language (like folded arms). Never sit down unless you are asked to. • Applaud when watching others. • Say thank you to your teacher at the end of class. 19
COPYRIGHT All routines choreographed and rehearsed at TDC remain the intellectual property of TDC. Permission must be asked and given in writing to perform choreography outside the studio, or use choreography for audition purposes; this may also incur a fee. Under Australian Copyright Laws, using any choreography or part thereof without written permission is punishable. Do not record or photograph any class content without permission. Posting of class content on social media is to be done by teachers and The Dance Collective staff only. FURTHER DEVELOPMENT To enhance your own development at TDC the following is suggested: • Arrive early to practice choreography with other dancers, warm-up and stretch. • Stretch at home to improve flexibility. Warm muscles first by physical activity or hot bath and then stretch hold- ing your positions for at least one minute to gain maximum flexibility. • Practice your routines and progressions at home. We recommend you practice within one day of learning mate- rial. Ask your teacher for the song title and artist and download it. • Go to musicals, live dance performances and watch dance related movies and TV shows, you learn so much by watching others. • Listen to the feedback your teacher gives with a positive attitude. • Join a ballet class. You will notice a huge improvement in your technique. • Get to know others in your class. TDC has an inclusive community and we encourage you to get to know one another. Say hi to someone different each week. INJURIES Inform your teacher at the beginning of the class if you have an injury. If an injury occurs in class, advise your teacher immediately to ensure prompt medical attention if necessary. ABSENCES Explain all absences from class. Please email admin@thedancecollective.com.au, call our studio 9314 7997 or text 0448 788 346 and a message will be passed on to the teacher. Teachers will mark your absence as ‘A’ if not explained and ‘E’ when explained. More than two unexplained absences in a term may be detrimental to your progress and may affect your place in the class and concert participation. Should you miss choreography or class content, ensure that you make arrangements with another dancer to teach you what you have missed. PERFORMANCE OPPURTUNITIES The Dance Collective works closely with numerous event management companies and with local community groups. Throughout the year performance opportunities will be offered to dancers in a range of ages and levels. If you are interested in being involved in performances it is imperative that you attend classes regularly to learn the choreography and work hard at home to master it. In situations where only a limited number of dancers are required, an audition may take place. SCHOLARSHIPS The Dance Collective awards a scholarship to a dancer in each age level. The dancers must be outstanding in some way. This could be demonstrating outstanding performance, effort, improvement, energy, outstanding contribution to class, etc. Scholarship winners are announced at the end of year concerts. They are presented with a certificate and have their term fees paid for a year for one class of their choice. Throughout the year we will be committed to organising workshops and events where all proceeds will go towards needed charities. COVID SAFETY PLAN BEFORE LEAVING HOME • Check your class location each Monday. If your class is at Willagee Community Centre please pick-up and drop-off there. • Use the toilet and wash hands thoroughly before coming to class. We would like to minimise the use of our toilet. • Pre-fill and label water bottles. • Bring minimal personal items. ON ARRIVAL • Arrive right on time at your class venue. If you are early please wait in your car. Our warm up room remains temporarily closed. • Sanitise hands. • Check in on the Safe WA app if you are an intermittent guest to TDC and not enrolled in a class. • Dancers enrolled in a class are not required to check in via the Safe WA app as their attendance will be recorded. • Reception is now open for payments and enquiries. Cashless payments encouraged. IN CLASS • Place water bottles on numbered dots spread 1.5m around studio. • Keep 1.5m distance in class (allowing 2m2 space). • Shared equipment to be cleaned by staff between use. ON DEPARTURE • Classes continue to finish 5 minutes early to avoid congestion. • Exit via side door of Studio 1 to ensure one-way flow of traffic. • If getting picked up, walk around to verandah and wait.
TERMS & CONDITIONS Fees 1. To secure your place all fees must be received immediately upon enrolment or your position will be forfeited. 2. A fee recovery charge of $25 will be added to your account if dancers are found attending without payment. 3. If accounts are not paid, class restrictions will apply and your account will be handed over to a collection agency, where all costs incurred are payable by the dancer. 4. No refunds on fees. 5. Term fees must be paid in full regardless of attendance. Make up classes are not available. 6. Account adjustments incur a $20 administration fee. 7. Account credits will automatically expire after 12 months if credit expiry date was not specified. 8. Accounts can be paid via online Client Portal, cash, EFTPOS or credit card in the studio or over the phone. 9. Casual dancers must pay class and registration fees prior to commencing class. Classes are subject to availability. 10. Online enrolments are only confirmed once payment has been received. 11. Dancers with special needs may require an assistant at a cost to the family. Classes 1. Any changes to your classes and account must be requested in writing to admin@thedancecollective.com.au 2. If you would like to discontinue any classes please email us prior to the beginning of term. 3. Teachers are subject to change at the discretion of The Dance Collective. 4. Age requirements apply to all classes. If dancers do not meet the age requirements they will be moved to the appropriate class at TDC’s discretion. 5. It is at TDC’s discretion to allocate dancers to classes most suited to their abilities. If dancers have enrolled and paid for a class that is not suited to their experience we will transfer them to a more appropriate class. 6. Dance is a physical activity that may involve teacher and student contact for demonstration and correction. 7. When enrolling at TDC it is the responsibility of the parent/student to inform us of any prior or current injury or illness in- cluding allergies, medical conditions and special needs. Showcase & Concert 1. Participating in the end of year showcase or concert incurs compulsory concert fees and rehearsals. Dancers are required to be at all rehearsals outlined in the Company & Concert Information Packages in order to participate. 2. Concert fees paid after the due date will incur a $25 fee recovery charge. 3. All dancers enrolled in Term 3 performing classes must pay concert fees by the cut-off date to have their costumes and concert merchandise ordered. If a dancer cancels their participation once Term 4 has commenced, written advice explaining the circumstances (admin@thedancecollective.com.au) must be given. Only a part refund will be considered depending on what items of costume/concert merchandise have been purchased already. Behaviour Policy 1. Negativity and disruptive behaviour is not tolerated at TDC. 2. Teachers reserve the right to ask a dancer to sit out for a portion of the class. 3. If disruptive behaviour is ongoing, parents will be contacted to discuss further action. 4. Physical, mental, emotional or cyber bullying by parents, staff or dancers will not be tolerated and may result in dismissal from the studio. Duty of Care 1. Utmost care is taken however no responsibility is taken by TDC for accidents incurred in the studio or at concert and other performances. Dancers dance at their own risk and TDC is not liable for any personal injuries. 2. In case of illness or injury where parents are not contactable, TDC will seek medical advice and act accordingly where treat- ment is deemed necessary. The cost will be incurred by the parent/guardian. 3. No responsibility is taken for students outside of class times. Copyright 1. All choreography remains copyright of The Dance Collective and the choreographers. Permission must be asked and given in writing to perform choreography outside the studio; this may incur a fee. Under Australian Copyright Law, using any chore- ography or part thereof without written permission is punishable. 2. No photographic or video equipment may be used in any class or concert without the express written permission from TDC. There are child protection laws in place as well as copyright issues with filming or photography in a class setting. Media Release 1. Permission is granted to use dancer’s name, photographic and video images for use on the website, brochures, newsletters, newspaper advertisements and any other promotional material. Personal Property 1. The Dance Collective will take no responsibility for parked vehicles at the premises and you are strongly encouraged to leave all valuables (cash, phones, iPods) at home or out of sight during your class time. 2. We also do not accept liability for loss or damage of personal property brought onto the premises.
