general information The VPRD welcomes two new Recreation Managers to our staff! Aaron Messenger Hello, I am the new Recreation Program Manager - Programming for the City of Vandalia. Although not born in Ohio, I have lived in Vandalia for most of my life and went through the school system here as well, from Helke Elementary all the way through Butler High School. I played basketball throughout my high school years, graduated from Butler High School in 2014 and received a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Man- agement from Ohio University in 2018. My life motto is, “Recreation for All”. I believe that recreation is essential and beneficial for people to grow and succeed as human beings. I believe that all people, no matter what physical, mental, medical or financial differences they may have, deserve the opportunity to recreate and participate in programs that they love. I grew up participating in many of the programs that were provided by the Vandalia Recreation Center and saw myself one day being able to provide the same fun experience back to the community. If you have any questions, concerns or thoughts about programming, please call 415-2334 or email me at amessenger@vandaliaohio.org. Thank you! John Myers Hi Vandalia! I am the new Youth and Adult Athletic Manager for the City of Vandalia. Born and raised here in Vandalia, I grew up playing sports at the Vandalia Recreation Center and then went on to play school sports within the Vandalia-Butler City School District; playing basketball, golf and baseball before graduating in 2013. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Social Science Education from Wright State Univer- sity. I have been working at our Rec Center since 2014 where my passion for Parks & Recreation has grown tremendously. I am very excited to take on and expand a position that currently provides top-notch athletic programing for our community. Offering fun, educational and safe opportunities is my top objective. If you have thoughts about cur- rent or future athletic programming, I would love to hear from you! Please do not hesitate to call 415-2333 or email jmyers@vandaliaohio.org. at the Rec JANUARY 1 - APRIL 30, 2019 www.vandaliareccenter.com 6
