As part of our family engagement efforts and to inform students and families of what they can expect for the first day of school in 2020- 2021, M- DCPS is hosting its Week of Welcome on August 24th through August 28th. This week-long series of programming will be made available both on- demand in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole via the District website and on WLRN TV. The programming will cover a wide range of topics designed to help students and families prepare for a successful school year. Topics will be related to the following categories: ◦ Connecting Virtually ◦ Supporting Student Success ◦ Healthy Mind & Body ◦ Your Child on Campus Additional information on how to access this programming will be made available to families via District/school-specific communication, as well as via the M-DCPS Reopening of Schools Website (http://reopening.dadeschools.net/).

Connecting with Us HDE has a new TV channel which can be found on our website. New videos with important information l be shared virtually. Laptops will be issued on a district loan basis to students who need them. Please check any device at home to ensure it's working properly. Please contact ddalby@dadeschools.net to request a laptop or call our school at 305-235-1412.
Stages of Reopening Schools District Parent Surveys indicated that 49.6% of families preferred the Schoolhouse model and 50.4% for My School Online. During Stage I (current stage) all students will participate in My School Online. This presentation is mostly focused on how the school will open and function during this stage. A future presentation will include more detailed information regarding Stage II. School begins August 31st for all students.
Week of Welcome Grade Level Drive-By Hours Kick off Drive-by on Saturday, August 29 PK-K 9:00-10:00AM 136th Street (through teacher parking lot) All families are welcome to drive by to meet your child’s teacher. You will 1st Grade 10:00-11:00 AM receive information about the PTA. Please follow CDC guidelines by remaining in your vehicle at all times. 2nd Grade 11:00-12:00 PM 3rd Grade 12:00-1:00 PM All new families and parents needing a Parent Pin. Parent must have photo ID for the PIN. Those who requested an 4th Grade 1:00-2:00 PM electronic device for their students and have been contacted may pick it up here. Anyone in need of a device should email 5th Grade 2:00-3:00 PM ddalby@dadeschools.net

Important information for 2020-2021 We are proceeding to a K-12 curriculum delivered digitally – PK through 5th Grade Student Portal access via www.dadeschools.net The program includes support for English Language Learners, Special Education, Gifted, Intervention, etc. Teachers will conduct face-to-face instruction via video/Zoom Therapy and/or counseling services will be provided digitally The new platform has a way to communicate between the home and the teacher, share daily/weekly schedule information and upload student assignments.

Beginning August 31st through at least October 2nd, all students will be attending school remotely via My School Online. Transition to Schoolhouse leaning is dependent upon improved community conditions (Stage II). What is My School Online? ◦ My School Online (MSO) is Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ (M-DCPS) distance learning option for those students in grades K-12 who wish to Distance continue their education full-time through innovative learning environments but still Learning maintain their enrollment status at their brick and mortar schools.
Components of Student Day Teachers will be able to interface with their entire class, a small group of students, or individual students through teleconferencing software similar to Zoom. During lessons, teachers can respond to students’ questions and provide real-time support and progress monitoring. While logged onto the platform, students can access their lessons, interact with peers, and complete group work and/or group projects. Additionally, teachers will be able to host parent and student conferences during planning periods, before school and/or after school as appropriate.

Schedules Daily School Schedule In MSO, the student’s day will mirror that of their Schoolhouse peers. Students will follow their class schedules and classes. Official school attendance will be recorded and maintained for each class. Student Schedules Student course schedules will be posted on the Parent and Student Portals and the District’s Mobile App. Students may log into the Student Portal or mobile app to access their schedule, and parents may access their child’s schedule through the Parent Portal or mobile app by logging in using their assigned PIN. Parents who do not have a pin, should contact the main office to secure a PIN. Specific student schedules, including the arrangement of activities such as subject area instruction, brain breaks, and lunch time will be determined by each individual school. Parents should contact the registrar for additional information regarding their child’s school schedule.
A Day in the Life of MSO Students During the course of a typical day in My School Online, students will participate in videoconferencing with their teachers, collaboration with peers, independent work, special courses or electives and of course, lunch, recess, and brain breaks. Attendance in My School Online (MSO) While enrolled in My School Online, students are expected to: ◦ log into live sessions with their teachers each and every scheduled school day. ◦ attend online class as scheduled. ◦ be prepared to start online classes on time. ◦ Demonstrate appropriate digital citizenship behavior while online. • Daily school attendance will be taken every scheduled school day at 8:35 AM. • A student is considered tardy to school if the student joins after the moment attendance is taken for the first class assigned. • MSO will follow the established District attendance policy in regard to excused class absences as defined in School Board Policy 5200-Attendance. • Detailed information on our attendance policy is included in the Parent Handbook.
Excused/Unexcused Class Absence MSO will follow the established District attendance policy in regard to excused class absences as defined in School Board Policy, 5200 – Attendance. If a student’s excuse for being absent doesn’t meet the criteria set forth in the school board attendance policy for excused absences, or the parent(s) fails to report and explain the absence(s) in a timely manner, his/her absence will be considered unexcused. Absences shall be reported to HDE's registrar by the parent no later than five days from the date of the absence. Parents should submit documentation (a parent note) in the form of an email detailing the reason for the child’s absence from a day to 2541attendance@dadeschools.net. Failure to report and explain the absence(s) shall result in unexcused absence(s). The principal of the student’s home/enrolled school shall have the final authority for determining acceptability of the reason for the absence(s).

Ready = in uniform, breakfast completed, device charged, supplies at hand and a quiet working table/desk space to participate Log in as required for each session – SCHEDULES WILL BE FORTHCOMING Video on, microphones muted, respectful of others, positive behavior at all times No background noises such as a TV, music, phone conversations, etc. Students will engage in class and learn about hand-raising, how to answer questions, etc. Our goal is to use a blend of relevant/creative assignments and teacher selected work to be completed either online and/or via special projects
Digital Citizenship This is our virtual classroom. Appropriate classroom behavior is expected. Log into your meeting from a distraction free, quiet environment. Please keep your audio on mute until you want to speak. This will help to limit background noise. If you would like to speak or answer a question, use the “Raise Hand” feature. Then unmute you rself after you are called on. If you would like to use the chat box, remember that it is public and a record of the chat is kept and archived. Have paper and a pen or pencil handy to take notes. Make sure your video is on so we can see your happy face.
