Contents Getting Ready for School 2 Getting Ready The Getting Set for Prep booklet is designed to assist you with preparing for entry for School into the early years sector of our school. Additional information outlining the school philosophy and requirements can be found in our Information Handbook. 3 Teaching and Learning Starting school is an important time for children and their families. Teaching and Learning The Australian Curriculum outlines the content we teach children from Prep to Year 6. All Prep students are engaged in teaching and learning activities for: English, Mathematics, Science and HASS (Humanities & Social Science) with their classroom teacher. Health & Physical Education (HPE), Music, French and STEM (Science Technology, Engineering & Maths) with specialist teachers. Prep students will go to the school library for borrowing once a week. Prep students do not attend religion lessons. The Physical education program includes swimming lessons in Term 1 and Term 4 and athletic lessons in Term 2 & 3. Prep students participate in a Prep swimming carnival and all events at the Junior Athletics Carnival and in the Cross Country. Tips for parents ✓ The best way to get your children to eat lunch at school is to pack what you know they like; even then they maybe too excited or busy to eat all of their lunch ✓ Encourage then to bring home uneaten food so you can monitor whether they are getting a balanced diet and adjust their food intake at home if necessary ✓ Make sure that your child can open the containers and unwrap their food ✓ It usually works best not to make a fuss over what children eat, even if you notice that they have not eaten their entire lunch. Support for families If you think your child may not be ready to start Prep, or is having difficulties in their Prep Year, you can speak to your school’s principal. If needed, you can delay when your child starts Prep by 12 months.
