2019 Walk-In Conference Workshop 1: 11:00 - 11:45 a.m. Translating Well-Being Data into Action: Leveraging Your Expertise The McDonald Center for Student Well-Being biannually implements the National College Health Assessment, a tool that provides insight into the health status of Notre Dame students. By taking a deeper dive into the data and dissecting it by subpopulations, we have the opportunity to develop synergistic partnerships that maximize impact for the students in greatest need. Join us for an interactive roundtable session dedicated to highlighting key data points gathered from various special populations, followed by a moderated brainstorming session on ways we can all work together and build on each other’s strengths to better serve our students. Presented by: Katrina Conrad, Assistant Director for Student Well-Being, Jenna Gehl Jones, Assistant Director for Emotional Well-Being, and Mara Trionfero, Assistant Director for Assessment and Education, McDonald Center for Student Well-Being Kindergarten to College to Career As student affairs professionals, we often try to meet students "where they are." This is a great strategy to support their continued growth. However, "where they are" is a culmination of "where they have been" and a precursor to "where they want to go." When it comes to making any decision, especially when choosing potential career paths, our students are faced with an overwhelming amount of information. Learn how to best support them in making "informed-decisions" by focusing on VALUES, INTERESTS, SKILLS, and PERSONALITY. Presented by: Erik Simon, Graduate Career Consultant, Center for Career Development
2019 Walk-In Conference Notre Dame Story Nights and Civil Discourse Conversations For the past seven years I have hosted what has come to be known as Notre Dame Story Nights in my room in Dillon Hall. I invite 10-12 first-year students from different ethnic, racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Each student is asked to share their "How I got to Notre Dame Story" with the other first-year students. Each year, I host approximately 200 students. This year I have begun hosting other groups of students which I am calling "Civil Discourse Conversations." I invite 16 students who represent as much diversity as possible: racial, cultural, ethnic, country of origin, economic, sexual orientation, political, and more. Each student is invited (for three minutes) to address the question "from my point of view, what are the most pressing needs of young people today?" After all 16 have spoken, there is time for discussion and conversation. Presented by: Fr.
