ABOUT OCTOBER 9-10, 2018 EQUITY IN THE CENTER BALTIMORE, MARYLAND SUMMIT 2018 Equity in the Center (EiC) works to shift mindsets, practices, and systems within the social sector to increase racial equity. We envision a future where nonprofit and philanthropic organizations define, implement and advance race equity internally while advocating and centering it in their work externally. Equity in the Center's three-pronged strategy will be a vehicle for racial justice, driving measurable improvement in the number of diverse leaders across the social sector. By identifying and convening change agents working to improve racial disparities in the talent pipeline, and creating communities of practice at both the regional and national levels, Equity in the Center will elevate tools and tactics to help organizations mitigate implicit bias in hiring, creating and perpetuating a diverse pipeline of leaders of color nationwide. Equity in the Center was launched by AmeriCorps Alums, ProInspire, and Public Allies following the Casey Talent Pipelines Learning Lab. Our work is informed by 100+ Advisory Committee members and supported by The Annie E. Casey Foundation, Ford Foundation, W. K. Kellogg Foundation, The Kresge Foundation, and The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. The main goals of the 2018 Equity Summit are to present findings from the Awake to Woke to Work: Building a Race Equity Culture publication, share recommendations from our cross-sector Resource Mapping Working Group, host workshops on key issues related to race equity work, highlight local Baltimore leaders and organizations making impact on race equity, and continue to build and strengthen our national network. This year's Summit themes include decolonizing the social sector, addressing race equity in an intersectional context, the role of family foundations in driving race equity funding strategies, and case examples from nonprofit and philanthropic organizations (and leaders) that have successfully transitioned from “Awake to Woke” and “Woke to Work.
