Summer Course in Chefchaouen (21st-26th of July, 2019) CNE «Cultural Heritage as an Asset for Local Participatory Development and Growth» L’héritage Culturel, une Opportunité pour le Développement Local Participatif ! ! ! As a part of the proposal from ICOMOS-Spain for generating changes in the governance models and performance protocols within ICOMOS, as well as to enhance the relationship between the specialists and the rest of the actors involved, civil society and Cultural Heritage management; ICOMOS-Spain launches this pilot course in collaboration with ICOMOS-Morocco and in partnership with the Commune of Chefchaouen, the outcomes of which will be presented in the next ICOMOS General Assembly and Scientific Simposium (Marrakech, October 2019) ! This intensive summer training course intends to answer this question: Is it possible to put cultural heritage at the center of a participatory strategy of local development and growth? General objective of the course: ! To acquire basic tools for participatory planning through case studies presented by local and international specialists, as well as by key local agents, experimenting in Chefchaouen and even teaching methodologies based on service-learning. Specific objectives: ! To build and identify basic indicators for sustainable development in territories and landscapes. To learn about the design of some basic strategies for local planning which will help to include the values of cultural heritage of territory. To learn how to make maps of agents to define a sustainable strategy of participation between different actors (communities, local authorities, experts, inhabitants and visitors). To practice through fieldwork some of the basic tools for local participation based on ethnographic, sociological or psychological, economic knowledge: discussion group, interviews or observations. To create a joint project, with the course participantes, the Commune and the local community, of initiatives of local interest in relation to cultural heritage and sustainable development.
Summer Course in Chefchaouen (21st-26th of July, 2019) CNE «Cultural Heritage as an Asset for Local Participatory Development and Growth» L’héritage Culturel, une Opportunité pour le Développement Local Participatif ! The first Chefchaouen Summer Course ! This workshop, which will lead to the design of a project for a small intervention on the territory of the Commune, will be held in Chefchaouen throughout a week of intensive training. During this training, it will be possible to deepen the roles to be played by all the social and institutional stakeholders in order to lay the foundations of the project which will help make it sustainable. The two modules that will be delivered this year to Chefchaouen will be entitled: Module A: Tools for territorial planning (at the local level) in a participatory framework, including cultural heritage. Module B: The inclusion of community participation in practices and projects for the enhancement of local cultural heritage. Methodological and organizational note: ! The proposal provides 5 hours per day of lessons in the morning, and aprox. 2 hours of field work in the afternoon; The starting time is 09:00 am (with a break at 11:00). A two-hour break takes place between 14:00 and 16:00 for a meal. After lunch, participants will do 2 hours of fieldwork. The 7 hours/day will be organized as follow: 35% of theory, 35% of case studies and 35% preparation of the fieldwork; Courses will not be conducted in the traditional face-to-face way. They will always be organized with an expert presentation and discussion involving experts, facilitators and participants; Participants (in working groups) will be requested to carry out brief presentations of their experiences in relation to the themes of the seminar, and to present their skills for the improvement of the common project; The case studies presented by the speakers and the experiences presented by participants have the function of giving a balanced structure to the collective discussion organized around the concept of "sharing experience": everyone has some knowledge to share with others! Discussions between participants and experts will always be facilitated and a coaching group will be present to support participants in the preparation of their practical work and field visits; The staff of the Commune will participate with its specialists for a continuous coaching both during the field work as the guided tours and practices;
