CAO research • Check right careers for me courses • Research course content, subject modules, do they suit me? • How is the course assessed? • College location, reputation and facilities • Career opportunities after this course? • Course length 2/3/4 years, hours per week • Class size..10-500! • www.qualifax is a good start then continue onto College websites for more detail.
How should I research? • FIRSTLY VISIT COLLEGES, ATTEND LECTURES/ OPEN EVENINGS, READ LITERATURE/ WEBSITES, TALK TO ADMISSION OFFICERS, FRIENDS, PARENTS, PAST PUPILS, GUIDANCE COUNSELLOR…DO LOADS OF RESEARCH • Guidance blog/website/emails and announcements • Narrow down a list of courses to a maximum of • 10 level eight courses • 10 level seven and six courses

CAO TIMETABLE 2019 ENTRY Early November, CAO online application opens 20th January, closing date for discounted fee 1st February, closing date for normal applications From 5th of May, free change of mind available Before/by 31st May, Statement of Application record sent to all applicants 1st July, change of mind closes August, first round offers commence
Offers and Acceptances Mid-August Current year Leaving Certificate results issued Round 1 offers available from 06:00 online - also issued by post, e-mail and Following SMS text. Monday Applicants who have not received an offer will receive a Statement of Application Record Round 1 Acceptances closing date (17:15). Friday Acknowledgement of Acceptances posted within 3 working days. Late August Round 2 offers available from 06:00 online. Early HEIs begin registration September Round 2 Acceptances closing date (17:15). 6th September Acknowledgement of Acceptances posted within 3 working days. Early October Results of Leaving Certificate appeals released 18th October Offer Season Ends. (17:15)
Offers and Acceptances You can get an offer from both lists (levels 6 &7 and Level 8) You can only accept one Accept online No payment at this stage Registration information will be sent to you from college
Review Scripts Free of charge View scripts in school Apply after results issued End Aug/beg Sept If you decide to appeal €45 fee Refunded if appeal successful
Vacant Places In August courses with places still available or new courses are advertised on the website www.cao.ie You can apply for these provided you have the minimum requirements for them You don’t have to have made an application to CAO to avail of these Can be worth checking out
Deferring a Place Deferring means that you don’t want to take your place this year but will do so next year. Once the offer comes DO NOT ACCEPT IT Contact the college IMMEDIATELY They will let you know if your course can be deferred Apply through CAO for 2019
Fees Student Contribution €3,000 for full time Level 6, 7 and 8 courses If you decide to leave your course after registration remember these dates: Before 20th Oct full refund of any payments 20th Oct -31st Jan 50% fees 1st Feb onwards 100% fees
