AP-SGW 2018 Previous AP-SGWs from 2014—2017 were successfully hosted in Japan, Indonesia, Philippines and India. The 5th Asia-Pacific Space Generation Workshop (AP-SGW 2018) is a two and a half- day workshop for students and young professionals (aged 18-35 years) to discuss pertinent issues in the Asia-Pacific region. Held from 3 to 5 November in Singapore, the event will feature 60 top delegates. As per tradition, AP-SGW 2018 is supported by and held in conjunction with the 25th Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF), happening 6 to 9 November.
ABOUT THE ORGANISER Space Generation Advisory Council is a global non-governmental organization that represents university students and young professionals to the United Nations, space agencies, industry & academia. To date, it has a network of 13,000 members and alumni representing 150 countries in 6 regions. In Asia-Pacific alone, SGAC recently organized Space Generation [ASEAN], SpaceUp Conference, and its flagship event the Space Generation Congress. SGAC has Permanent Observer Status in the United Nations Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS), allowing it to attend and present workshop recommendations at high-level meetings.
AP-SGW 2018 GOALS 1. To strengthen the Asia-Pacific network of students and young professionals. 2. To attract recommendations for key Asia-Pacific issues faced by the region’s space community, to be shared by SGAC at the United Nations Committee on Peaceful Uses for Outer Space. 3. To boost long-term talent development for the next generation of Asia-Pacific space leaders, through the Speed Mentoring segment. 4. To facilitate the interaction between tomorrow’s space leaders and today’s Asia-Pacific space leaders, through cooperation with the 25th APRSAF. 5. To celebrate and reflect upon progress in the young Asia-Pacific space community, having a clearer picture on how to pave the way forward.
CONCEPT 2 and a half day workshop, held from 3 to 5 November, in Singapore • 2 Expert Panel Discussions – Experts from the space industry will be invited to share insights and discuss issues specific to the region. • 5 Working Groups – The delegates will be assigned to working groups of their interest, making recommendations that have the opportunity to be presented to stakeholders, high-level scientific conferences, and in SGAC’s Annual Report to the United Nations. • Community Building – This year, delegates will be given ample time to prepare for the topics and connect with each other before the event, through social media groups. There will also be multiple opportunities to network during 2 Lunches, 4 Coffee Breaks, Opening Dinner, and Closing Dinner. • Half-Day Speed Mentoring Event – Young space entrepreneurs will have the precious opportunity to share their ideas, exchange understanding with and learn from established professionals in the region. • Featuring at least 60 delegates, 10 speakers, 5 mentors, and 5 moderators.
