The Steak Cookoff Association is dedicated to building the sport of steak cookoffs and is the only sanctioning body focused exclusively on grilling. All SCA events are run to the same high standard that the teams have come to expect, the SCA requires all promoters to agree to deliver an event that meets these minimum standards. As a Promoter you are responsible for the infrastructure and safety of all teams at your event. SCA will provide systems, processes, entry of the scores, judge training, rules and final results and will proactively help you to market your event to a worldwide audience through its substantial social media and web based platforms.
SCA Statistics Projected 2019 events will be 225 domestic and 30 International events. 2019 projected events in Mexico, Canada, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Australia, Japan, South Korea, The Bahamas, The Netherlands, New Zealand, and the US. Our events attracted 25-130 competitive teams per event with crowds ranging from 1,000 to 25,000 spectators. The average number of teams competing in SCA's 2018 events was 38 teams per event. SCA Competition Winners have ranged in age from 4 yrs to 82 yrs old. Teams made up of men, women, coworkers, friends, family, and neighbors. SCA awards prize money typically for $1,000 for 1st place down to $100 for 10th place. (Average total payout is $3,250.00) Prize amounts are determined by the promoters. Our social media sites had over 12,000 followers that produced over 900,000 impressions. SCA EVENT TIMELINES SCA timelines are flexible to accommodate other parts of any festival or event. SCA does require certain amounts of time that are between specific turn in times and will be happy to discuss you particular event's timelines and concerns. The promoter ultimately decides the timeline with the guidance of SCA. Promoter Responsibilities The promoter is the host of the event, the person that stands to make money and the person responsible for the event. SCA sanctions the event, advises the promoter, assists in bringing in teams and runs the judging tent for the promoter. To choose event date, location, ancillary categories, payouts and entry fees. Promoter assumes all responsibility for paying guaranteed payouts. SCA is not responsible for prize payouts To market and promote the event in the community and social media. Promoters may promote the event on the SCA Group page at any time. To provide a location for the awards ceremony and a sound system or PA if possible. To provide a private area for Judging with electricity, tables, and chairs (usually 6 – 8-foot tables and 12 chairs) Assure Friday night events have adequate lighting (lighting is important to judge the doneness of steaks) Provide 3-4 volunteers to assist in the judging area (Important) The promoter must have either cash or checks prepared for the awards ceremony. Provide steaks for the cookoff. The SCA Standard is 1 1/8” boneless choice ribeye steaks. Pay each SCA Rep’s expenses (mileage & hotel if necessary), €200 Rep Judging Fee for their time and services. Mileage is figured at the current government-mandated rate. SCA will try to use the SCA Rep that is closest to your event. Payment must be made to Rep on the day of the event. One Rep required for 1-49 Teams, 2 Reps for 50-99 teams, 3 Reps for 100 Plus Teams Must use SCA logos on advertising materials and trophies for the event. Provide a metal trash can to dispose of teams hot coals. Provide adequate restroom facilities and trash receptacles. Obtain any required local event permits. To provide supplies for judging area (trays, forks, knives, paper towels, oyster crackers, water, etc). In the event of cancellation by the contest organizer, all previously paid expenses shall be non-refundable. The contest organizer will also reimburse the SCA Representative(s) any prepaid expenses incurred by them which cannot be recouped.
EVENT COSTS Sanctioning Costs The SCA Europe sanctioning fee is $275 USD per event. SCA Representative Fees Total The SCA representative that coordinates the event is paid €200 plus the cost of travel to the event and accommodations if necessary (mileage is figured at the current government-mandated rate). SCA will try to use the SCA Representative that is closest to your event when possible. Promoters may request a rep if they have a favorite. SCA Certified Judges do not get paid to judge the event. Events up to 49 will require 1 SCA Rep, events over 50 teams will require 2 SCA Reps. If an event reaches 100 teams a third SCA Rep will be required. Cost of Steaks and Trophies The steaks for each event are provided by the promoter of the event. Each team is provided two 1 1/8" boneless Choice Ribeyes for the competition, plus 10 extra ribeyes for the steak selection process. The trophies for SCA events are provided by the promoter.
