FUN FACT: The origin of the term “happy hour” dates back to the early 19th century, when the phrase was used to describe the en- tertainment period in which activities such as boxing and wres- tling matches would occur on board. It wasn’t until the Prohibi- tion era that the term “happy hour” was associated with alcohol, as renegade drinkers, also known as "the Wets," flocked to speak- easy clubs where the term "happy hour" was used as "a euphe- mism for drinking sessions ahead of dinner in public restaurants where serving alcohol was illegal." 5
