Youth Square ‘YS Career Experience Programme’
       introduces flexible working mode to provide greater autonomy in internship

(Hong Kong, 1 April, 2021) COVID-19 turned life upside down, working from home or hybrid working mode
is becoming the new normal. When flexibility is increasingly expected to become the new norm, ‘YS Career
Experience Programme’ also introduces flexible working arrangements for interns to choose their own
working mode. Considering actual working circumstances in different departments, interns can choose
whether work in office or spend some time work at home. While providing the flexibility of work, interns
will interact with their mentors via virtual meetings regularly.

‘YS Career Experience Programme’ is now open for applications until 16 April. Under the six-week career
experience, interns are able to gain experience in various departments from July to August, including Y
Loft, Facilities Management Department, Operations Department, Finance Department and Marketing
Department etc., to experience and perform a whole spectrum of tasks and projects. During the pandemic,
staying positive and looking after mental health have never been more important, thus elements of
wellness have also been incorporated into the programme this year. To encourage youth to develop
positive thinking and self-management capabilities, programme joiners can make use of their non-
working time offering creative proposals to promote mental wellness and positive mindset. Selected
interns who are capable of having their excellent ideas executed can have the opportunity to stay at Y
Loft in return.

Youth Square has been providing a relaxed, reliable and safe environment for youth to explore every
possibility of their potentials. Through organising internship programme every year, we hope the
opportunities of career experience would help youth to develop their career plans that suits their interests
and abilities.

YS Career Experience Programme 2021:
Recruitment period: From now until 16 April 2021 (Friday)
Interview period: From 3 to 7 May 2021
Internship period: From 5 July to 13 August 2021 (Total 6 weeks)

Online briefing session: Two briefing sessions will be held online on 22 April, to provide an introduction
of Youth Square and the programme. Applicants are required to make advance registration and attend
one of the briefing sessions.

Chris Kwok, an intern of ‘YS Career Experience Programme’ in the last year said, “It is a valuable career experience
to work in Corporate Communication Department. Learning about being a professional practitioner in Corporate
Communication, it allows me to have an opportunity to make use of what I have learned in school such as writing
skills of press release. I can also experience other tasks related to this field!”

“This programme gave me a comprehensive exposure to the field of Facilities Management, such as security,
gardening, and cleaning etc. I have learned a lot from the department head on how to handle emergency situations
also, I gained a lot!” said Pong Law, another intern from last year’s ‘YS Career Experience Programme’.

Kary Chung who worked as an intern in performing arts said, “I've benefited a lot from my internship. It's given me
a deeper understanding on what’s behind the backstage and what are involved in managing a venue performance,
like box office operations, liaising with hirers, handling documents, technical meetings, and facilities matching etc.
are all interrelated. I hope to use my experience to provide better services for hirers and the public alike.”

With the guidance of their mentors, a group of interns organised an exhibition called ‘Let’s Glow Skate!’, bringing
skateboarding culture into Youth Square. The exhibition will be launched in May at Youth Square for public to join.

Youth Square
The Youth Square, which came into full operation in 2010, is a youth development project of the Home
Affairs Bureau of the HKSAR Government, with an aim to be the hub of diversified youth development
activities for youth to develop their potential. Youth Square facilities include the 643-seat Y Theatre, Y
Studio, multi-function areas and the Y Loft which has 148 guest rooms. Youth Square has been conducting
events under three themes, include “Music & Dance”, “Arts & Culture” and “Community Engagement”.
Youth Square is located in Chai Wan and is managed and operated by New World Facilities Management

Y Loft is conveniently located, 3-minute walk from Chai Wan MTR Station. The 148-room Y Loft is located
in Youth Square’s Main Block and Hostel Block. Room selection includes Twin, Twin Room with Balcony,
Triple, House of Six, Duplex and Accessible Rooms. Accessible Rooms, with widened corridor and more
space, are designed to deliver the same comfort and peace of mind to visitors with disabilities.
