2 FIFTH & SIXTH SUNDAYS OF EASTER MAY 10 & 17, 2020 A Message from Our Pastor Happy Mother’s Day! - This weekend we honor our mothers. It is estimated that there are more phone calls made and more flowers sent on this day than on any other throughout the year. That stands to reason. Our mothers have done so much for us. It is only right that we honor them – with a gift, a phone call, or a visit. In the Book of Genesis we read these words: God created mankind in his image: in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. The inspired writer of this text reminds us that both men and women reflect the face of God. For sure, our mothers depict who and what God is in a distinct way. Their goodness, generosity, and self-sacrifice wonderfully capture and reflect back to us the beauty and awesome goodness of God. It is good and right that we honor and celebrate our mothers today. When we do so, we give glory and honor to our God who created them. Thank you, Moms, for all you do and are for us! Thank You, Sam – Sam Dresen is our Notre Dame ECHO Apprentice. She has assisted our faith formation and youth ministries for the last two years. In her quiet yet dedicated way, Sam has brought the light of Christ to our parish. From Confirmation preparation and R.C.I.A catechesis, to the various podcast episodes and videos she has shared with us about the Catholic Faith, Sam has generously shared her time and talent with us – making Nativity Parish a holier and happier place. Sam finishes up her apprenticeship with us within the next few days. She will also conclude her studies at University of Notre Dame during the summer. As Sam leaves Nativity Parish, we wish her well as she embarks on this new phase of her journey of ministry and faith. Sam, no matter where you go, I hope you know that you will always have a special place in the hearts and souls of all Nativity parishioners. Congratulations, Deacon Drew – A few days ago, Deacon Drew Woodke finished his seminary studies at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary. Deacon Drew graduated and now anticipates his ordination to the priesthood on Saturday, August 15th at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle in St. Petersburg. That celebration will begin at 11 am and all are invited to attend. Please keep Drew Drew and his classmates, Deacon Josh Bertrand and Deacon Connor Penn, in your prayers as they look forward to their ordination and to serving the people of the Diocese of St. Petersburg as priests. ~Fr. www.nativitycatholicchurch.org 3 Stewardship: Pray, Serve, Give Stewardship Reflection May 10, 2020—Fifth Sunday of Easter (Reflection courtesy of catholicsteward.com) The readings on this fifth Sunday of Easter present us with themes of dwelling places and home. As Christian stewards, we are well aware that this world is not our permanent home. We are merely pilgrims here, making our way through the stewardship way of life to our true home, heaven. Yet, as we make our way to heaven, we are called to make our dwelling here — whether we are in a household of one or bursting at the seams — a true “domestic church.” In other words, the stewardship way of life begins long before we set foot on the parish grounds. Stewardship starts at home. It begins with our families, our domestic churches. The domestic church plays a key role in our sanctification because it is the primary place where we practice intimate and selfless love of other persons. In our Gospel passage from John, Jesus speaks of heaven as a home filled with dwelling places. “In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?” This is a beautiful image of the glory that awaits us and the personal love our Lord has for us in preparing the perfect “spot” for each one of us who remain faith- ful to Him. Let us respond to this great love by becoming good stewards of our earthly dwellings, making of our homes true “domestic church- es” where we honor God with our prayer, our thoughtfulness to each other and our generous hospitality to all. Let us never forget that stewardship starts at home! Weekly Tithing Report Thank you for your continued generosity. Or you can drop off or mail-in your offertory envelope. Stewardship Reflection May 17, 2020—Sixth Sunday of Easter (Reflection courtesy of catholicsteward.com) On this sixth Sunday of Easter, our readings remind us that God must come first in our lives, and that love of God shows itself in concrete actions — this is precisely why the stewardship way of life is so necessary. Our second reading, from St. Peter challenges us to, “Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts.” In other words, we are to put Christ first above all else in our lives. His role is not merely as Savior of our lives, as significant as that role is — He is to be “Lord” of our lives as well. As His disciples, we are called to make Him ruler of all aspects of our lives — our time, talents and treasure. The beauty of the stewardship way of life is that it offers us a concrete means to show that Christ truly is Lord of our lives, to “prove” our love, in a manner of speaking, because true love is not mere sentiment. “Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me,” Jesus tells us in our Gospel passage from John. True love is an act of the will. It requires obedience to all of God’s commandments. This requires courage, humility and deep trust in Him. But the rewards of this kind of love are indescribably wonderful. Christ tells us Himself, “Whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.” Could there be anything more satisfying to live in such a way that the God of the universe is pleased to reveal more and more of Himself to us?

8 FIFTH & SIXTH SUNDAYS OF EASTER MAY 10 & 17, 2020 Del Oficina Parroquial ¡Feliz Día de la Madre! ~P.
