June 2021 Worship and Prayer! OUR MISSION To offer life changing hope through the Gospel of Jesus Christ to homeless men, women, and children through programs to deliver food, shelter, counseling and discipleship
From the “Some wish to live within the sound of church or chapel bell. DIRECTOR I wish to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell.” —C.T. Studd REX BAKER The young man sat and ate his lunch in the Gateway a wise pastor. The pastor pointed me to Proverbs 12:15 cafeteria, looking like he had lost his last friend. He hung which says “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, around after lunch was over, catching the attention of but a wise man is he who listens to counsel.” He told me, our kitchen staff. God’s timing is perfect. Please pray that in His time, our Charles Dickens opens his classic novel “A Tale of sunburned young man will turn to Jesus in repentance. FEATURE GATEWAY We are opening back up at Gateway Rescue Mission. Ford Mosby This marked the fi rst post-Covid worship service conducted by an outside church at Gateway. President We look forward to many more. Beth Archer It wouldn’t do for volunteers to come to our shelter without a fresh coat of post-Covid paint. Vice President Our crew has been hard at work in recent weeks giving our properties a facelift via paint. It’s good to have some fellas around with the anointing to paint. Jackie Meck We’ve also reopened our kitchen to full, sit-down dining. No more to-go trays. We give the Secretary kitchen a good cleaning after each meal. However, we feel it’s time to allow people to come in, sit down, and eat a good meal at a table. This also means we’ll be opening back up our volunteer Vivian Farris program to folks who want to drop by and help serve lunch. After being closed since mid-February for winter freeze flooding repairs, our Thrift Store in Pearl is finally open for business. We are once again selling donated items, making donation pickups, and allowing folks to drop off donations. Sometimes God gives you what you didn’t pray for. We did not pray for God to close our store for three months. However, in doing so, it gave us the opportunity to make some much- needed improvements to our store that we could never make with the store open. So, God closed the store for us and gave us the opportunity to spruce things up. This allows for a better store and a better shopping experience for the public. In the end, we can only say at Gateway Rescue Mission that God is good. And as the old saying goes, He’s always right on time. And as another wise pastor recently told me, “He’s always right own time”, as in God does all things in His own time, not ours. Drop by our store. Business is booming. When you buy a new bedroom suit, consider donating your used one to Gateway Rescue Mission. Thrift Store Update • We are currently in need of nonperishable foods and • First-aid supplies, such as band-aids, antibacterial canned goods.
