President – Mike Kincaid Vice-President – Allen Robinson Secretary/Treasurer – Patty Pierce 135 North Hills Drive, Rising Sun, MD 21911 Phone 410-658-2460 WINTER 2020 Greetings to All, Another year has passed and it was a welcome change to have more normal weather than last year. Yields were better and the grain bins filled faster. Now if only the prices would go up and stay there. Plans were drawn up after our May meeting by Aaron Haines, Jay Tosh, Jerry England, Allen Robinson and I for a barn style shed to set up at the County Fair and other events to promote Cecil County Farm Bureau and all agriculture as well as to recruit new members and to renew old memberships. These plans were submitted by Jerry and I to Carpentry Class Instructor Rick Webster at the Cecil County School of Technology where it was built by his students as their final project of the school year. Maureen O’Shea, Ag Coordinator for Cecil County Economic Development put together video interviews with various Farm Bureau members, with the Cecil County School of Technology Media Class as well as a video on the diverse types of agriculture in Cecil County. Both videos played in our shed while at the fair and the Apple Butter Festival at the Cecil County Farm Museum. We received many compliments on both. Maureen O’Shea, Doris Behnke & Patty Pierce our Secretary/Treasurer designed, put together, printed and folded a new brochure promoting ag, ag business and Farm Bureau in the County. Great work ladies! We had seven delegates representing Cecil County at the State Convention in Ocean City in December. We covered many policy issues as well as exchanging ideas with members across the state. Also, our own Wayne Stafford was elected State President and Jonathan Quinn was elected 2nd Vice President. John Draper from Queen Annes County was elected 1st Vice President. Congratulations to all. The Eastern Shore is well represented and a good time was had by all. On a sad note, over the last several months we have lost some of our Farm Bureau family. David Dudkewitz and his wife Charlotte, Jacqui England, Ellen Larrimore, and John Guethler. They are all dearly missed and they and their families will always remain in our hearts and prayers. Fortunately, there are good people stepping up to continue their work and legacy’s. Cecil County Farm Bureau and Cecil County Economic Development Ag Coordinator Maureen O’Shea held a Grain Marketing Workshop on February 4th at the Grange Hall featuring guest speaker Bill Hostetter of Hostetter Grain, Inc. in Oxford, PA. It was well attended and very informative. We will do more of these workshops in the future. Farm Bureau Day in Annapolis was February 12th. This is a great opportunity to talk to our elected representatives and their staff to let them know where we stand on issues important to us and answer any questions they have. This is well worth taking the time to attend. I highly recommend it. Finally, our 90th Annual Banquet and Auction will be Friday, March 20th at the Rising Sun Fire Hall. Thompson Seafood and Catering will again be preparing our meal. The menu will be very similar if not the same as last year. So, get your tickets early since last year was a sellout.
I look forward to seeing all of you soon. Have a safe winter, a successful spring and growing season, and a bountiful harvest. Sincerely, Mike Kincaid C. Michael Kincaid President, Cecil County Farm Bureau, Inc. Wayne Stafford, John Draper, & Jonathan Quinn elected leaders of Maryland Farm Bureau 2

CECIL COUNTY WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE Hello, my name is Katie Larrimore and this is my first year serving on the Cecil County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee. I joined the committee following in my mom’s footsteps after she passed away in November 2019 from breast cancer. My mom was an advocate of the farming community as a Farm Bureau member and Women’s Committee Chair, the leader of the Calvert Boys and Girls 4-H club for over 22 years, a former Cecil County Farm Queen, and much more. I am very thankful for the opportunity to continue her legacy as a farm bureau member and Women’s Committee Chair. I recently attended the State Convention in Ocean City and had a great experience attending the Women’s Leadership meeting. Heather Mullins (Miss Cecil County Farm Bureau) and Tarra Todd (Jr. Miss Cecil County Farm Bureau) have been busy attending various ag events. They attended the North East Christmas Parade a few months ago. They helped with the 4-H auction. Our Miss Heather Mullins attended the State Convention in Ocean City in December and the Young Farmers Legislative Breakfast in January. Hope to see everyone at the annual banquet/auction March 20th! CECIL COUNTY YOUNG FARMERS Warm greetings and Happy New Year! Here at Young Farmers we have been busy attending leadership training sessions, supporting local 4-H, traveling to the American Farm Bureau Convention, and promoting Cecil County Agriculture. A prime focus for Cecil County Young Farmers is helping 4-H members to attend workshops and experience that will further their love of agriculture, but allow them to come back with knowledge to pass on to those around them. We each hold Cecil County 4-H close to our heart as it helped shape us into the adults we have become. In January, Wilson Davis attended the American Farm Bureau Convention in Austin, TX. Throughout the weekend, Wilson was able to meet many young farmers in the nation, all trying to make a difference. He competed in the discussion meet representing Maryland Young Farmers against approx. 40 other states. Many aspects of agriculture were discussed as representatives advocated for the farming communities. Our Young Farmers are now working hard planning the 14th Annual Sporting Clay Fundraiser that will be held April 5th at Hopkins Game Farm in Kennedyville, Maryland. Registration will begin at 9 A.M. and score cards must be turned in by 1pm in order to be eligible for placing. Tickets are $50 for adults and $40 for youth under 15. Tickets include one round of 50 clay targets, a BBQ lunch, and one chance for the gun raffle. For more information on this event, please contact Wilson Davis at 443-566-0123 or by email at wilsondavis9@yahoo.com With every New Year comes a plethora of responsibilities, so our committee held our annual elections in November. We hope that we are able to continue being the largest Young Farmer’s organization in the state. Many hands make light work, so if you know any young adult who would like to help spread knowledge about Agriculture and give back to the local community, send them our way! Our new executive board is as follows: President: Wilson Davis Vice President: Sam Reynolds Treasurer: Rebecca Guethler Secretary: Erika Edwards The weather will be beautiful before we know it. Wishing you a safe an abundant growing season! God Bless, Wilson Davis Cecil County Young Farmer President cecilyoungfarmer@gmail.com Warm greetings and Happy New Year!
