W elcome to the 2019 Florida Planning & Zoning WELCOME Association Conference, “Planning for the Winds of Change.” The Surfcoast Chapter is honored to host the 67th annual state conference in beautiful Key West at the Hilton DoubleTree Grand Key Resort. Our Surfcoast Chapter, which serves Volusia and Flagler counties in north central Florida, is excited to coordinate this destination conference. Early in the planning stages, the Conference Committee knew that the “Planning for the Winds of Change” theme was appropriate for the time and location. Statewide, our profession is seeing many changes that will affect land development. Environmental issues, including the recent hurricanes, climate change, and sea level rise are impacting the planning and development of many Florida cities. Emerging technologies include autonomous vehicles, renewable energy/ solar farms and augmented reality urban planning. It is the goal of this conference to provide a program of speakers and sessions designed for insight into the future of our profession. As our planning community gathers at the 67th FPZA state conference, be sure to take in your surroundings and appreciate the atmosphere of this vibrant island. Truman Little White House was originally the command headquarters of the naval Beach. He graduated from Auburn University in 1983. While at Auburn, station during the Spanish-American War. It served the same function during both world wars. In he was editor of the student newspaper, The Plainsman. 1946, the building became President Harry S. Truman’s winter White House. From 1983 to 1987, he was a police and court reporter for The Alabama Journal, the now-defunct evening newspaper in Montgomery. He joined The Tampa Tribune in 1987 as a general assignment reporter. Tim also worked as a political reporter in the Tribune’s Tallahassee bureau and a copy desk editor. From 1994 to 1999, he was the Tribune’s night metro editor. Tim left the paper in August 1999 to write full-time. Tim has since published 19 novels in several languages: Florida Roadkill, Hammerhead Ranch Motel, Orange Crush, Triggerfish Twist, The Stingray Shuffle, Cadillac Beach, Torpedo Juice, The Big Bamboo, Hurricane Punch, Atomic Lobster, Nuclear Jellyfish, Gator A-Go-Go, Electric Barracuda, When Elves Attack, Pineapple Grenade, The Riptide Ultra-Glide, Tiger Shrimp Tango, Shark Skin Suite, and Coconut Cowboy. His 20th title, Clownfish Blues, will be released in January. He lives in Tampa.
