elcome to the 2019 Florida Planning & Zoning
WELCOME Association Conference, “Planning for the Winds of
Change.” The Surfcoast Chapter is honored to host
the 67th annual state conference in beautiful Key West at the
          Hilton DoubleTree Grand Key Resort.

Our Surfcoast Chapter, which serves Volusia and Flagler
counties in north central Florida, is excited to coordinate
this destination conference. Early in the planning stages, the
Conference Committee knew that the “Planning for the Winds
of Change” theme was appropriate for the time and location.
Statewide, our profession is seeing many changes that will affect
land development. Environmental issues, including the recent
hurricanes, climate change, and sea level rise are impacting
the planning and development of many Florida cities. Emerging
technologies include autonomous vehicles, renewable energy/
solar farms and augmented reality urban planning. It is the goal
of this conference to provide a program of speakers and sessions
designed for insight into the future of our profession.

As our planning community gathers at the 67th FPZA state
conference, be sure to take in your surroundings and appreciate
the atmosphere of this vibrant island. We sincerely thank you for
attending and hope you all enjoy the conference.
