Breviate of South East Area JPC Steering Committee - In accordance with Joint Policing Committee Guidelines, the breviate of the South East Area Joint Policing Steering Committee meeting, held on Friday 26th February, via Zoom, is set out hereunder. Issues Discussed: JPC Membership - Business/Community Membership: One prospective member to be contacted following referral via CSFs. Action : JPC to continue to seek further membership applications. Gardaí visited local community groups, local hospitals, healthcare centres & GP’s reminding them that they are available to deliver prescriptions etc. Meals on Wheels was also operated providing in excess of 100+ hot meals a day to the elderly & vulnerable in the SE area.

The Divisional Burglary Response Unit carry out targeted patrols across the SE Area. The Crime Prevention Officer has conducted a number of security surveys and assessments to reduce the incidents of property crimes in the DCC SE Area . Prolific offenders were targeted and objections to bail made in District Court. Bail was revoked before the District Court where breaches of bail were detected. Ongoing engagement with key stakeholders, DCC, Docklands Business Forum, Arramark & Apleona Property Mgmt., etc. in a joined up approach to a successful reduction in anti-social and criminal behaviour.

This is ongoing and includes the Community Policing & Drug Unit as well as Operation PIER. Gardaí in Donnybrook have met with Dublin City Council regarding “The Drain” in Ringsend Park, a laneway that runs from Strasburg Terrace down to Pigeon House Road. It is poorly lit and is used by youths to engage in anti social behaviour. Gardaí have sought additional lighting to discourage youths hanging around in times of darkness. A CCTV system was installed in Whelan House & O’Rahilly House Flat Complex in December 2020.

This is monitored centrally to ensure compliance. As a result of the February Docklands Forum meeting feedback, Crime Prevention Officer is carrying out an assessment of Public Lighting on Sir John Rogerson's Quay, with a view to additional lighting to improve feeling of safety and reduce anti social behaviour.

The Juvenile Liaison Officer will talk with parents and juveniles and will promote the benefits of being involved in a project/activity as a way of avoiding becoming involved in criminality.

South East area officer Michael Carruth and South Central area officer Paul Quinn are tutoring young enthusiasts via the IABA Youtube Channel (see link below). The programme commences with various warm up exercises and finishes with cool down advice.
