HOW WE WILL WORSHIP TOGETHER Today’s service will be held over Zoom, which is videoconferencing technology available free of charge online. Zoom allows us to see one another throughout the service. To prevent background noise, you will be put on ‘mute’ for the majority of the service, although we will ‘unmute’ the entire congregation at times. Even when we can’t hear you, you are invited and encouraged to sing loudly and participate fully! Throughout this leaflet, you will see boxes like the one below with instructions on how to remain engaged throughout the service. Prepare for our Online Worship 1. Visit zoom.us/download to find the Zoom app for desktop, laptop, or smartphone 2. For desktop computer users, make sure your webcam is plugged in 3. To practice, join a test meeting: visit zoom.us/test and click “join.” In Case of Technical Difficulties Some technical difficulties are individual, and some are beyond our control (for example, a nationwide outage in Zoom capabilities). For individual questions or troubleshooting, contact Kyle Picha: communication@trinitynewhaven.org. In the Event of a Zoom Outage – We will most likely switch to a simple livestream on YouTube, or another format. If Zoom is not working, notice of a backup plan will be posted as soon as possible on the church’s homepage, https://www.trinitynewhaven.org/. If you are not able to use a smartphone or computer, you can also call in via any regular phone (see below). OPENING SENTENCE Book of Common Prayer p.78 Officiant Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:2 CONFESSION BCP 79 Officiant Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. All Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. ABSOLUTION BCP 80 Officiant Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. THE INVITATORY BCP 82 Officiant Lord, open our lips. People And our mouth shall proclaim your praise. Officiant Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. People As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. 5
THE VENITE said by all Come, let us sing to the LORD; * let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving * and raise a loud shout to him with psalms. For the LORD is a great God, * and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the caverns of the earth, * and the heights of the hills are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, * and his hands have molded the dry land. Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, * and kneel before the LORD our Maker. For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice! Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. LESSON A reading from the Book of Genesis 1: 1-5 I N the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. Lector Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church. People Thanks be to God.
PSALM 29: 1-4, 10-11 Afferte Domino chant: Malcolm Archer sung by the cantor 1 Ascribe to the LORD, you gods, * ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his Name; * worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. 3 The voice of the LORD is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders; * the LORD is upon the mighty waters. 4 The voice of the LORD is a powerful voice; * the voice of the LORD is a voice of splendor. 10 The LORD sits enthroned above the flood; * the LORD sits enthroned as King for evermore. 11 The LORD shall give strength to his people; * the LORD shall give his people the blessing of peace. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. LESSON A reading from the Gospel according to Mark 1: 4-11 OHN the baptizer appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for J the forgiveness of sins. And people from the whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him, and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. He proclaimed, “The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.” Lector Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church. People Thanks be to God. 7
