T H E H O LY O N E OF GOD Second Sunday after Epiphany What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him Mark 1: 27 Worship Service Guide January 17, 2021 10 AM .
Welcome to All Saints Church! We are thankful you are here this morning! If you’re visiting with us, we hope that you feel welcome. If you are attending in person this morning, please remain within your family’s zone to ensure the safety and protection of those around you. We will be avoiding any physical contact during the service. During the passing of the peace, and at the end of the service, please remain in your zones and continue to maintain social distancing protocols. All Saints Church’s worship includes a formal liturgy. Liturgy (literally meaning “the work of the people”) is the structured way in which God’s people worship Him. What that means is that at some points in the service we’ll take time to be quiet and pray, at other times we’ll respond together with song or Scripture, and still, at other times, we’ll take in the spoken Word of God. Our liturgy is shaped by the same storyline of Scripture. We were created in the image of God, to re ect His love. We have corrupted love by living for ourselves instead of living for God and we deserve God’s judgment. God demonstrates his gracious love for us by redeeming sinners through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus. We anticipate our nal home and kingdom where God’s love will be fully expressed and experienced. We give thanks to God who spared from the loveless place of hell and given us the joyous place of eternal life with Him. We ask that you participate in whatever manner comfortable for you. Sometimes people may raise their hands in praise during worship, others might close their eyes, others may appear more solemn. We would also encourage you to bring your own natural speaking voice and expressive style to the mix as we recite Scripture, sing and respond together. It’s a picture of the variety in which God created us. If you are with us via webinar, should you have any di culties with the connection or sound, please don’t hesitate to let us know so that we can improve the streaming experience. We are thankful to have you here with us. May the LORD bless you richly today in worship together of the God of love. fl fi ffi

We Come Unclean Please be seated. Confession of Sin We gather today in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Gracious Heavenly Father, we confess that we have rebelled against you and ignored your commandments. You love us as children, yet we run from you like prodigals, denying your authority in our lives and breaking your commandments. Forgive us our Father, and have mercy upon us. Lord Jesus, you are the Good Shepherd, and have laid down your life for your ock. Yet we confess that we have strayed as sheep, and ignored our Shepherd. We have sought to be our own saviors through seeking our own pleasures, and pursuing our own sel sh agendas. Forgive us Lord Jesus, and have mercy upon us. Spirit of Truth, you are the Comforter, and have come to lead us in paths of righteousness. Yet we confess that we resist your work in our lives, and grieve you continuously, failing to do the things you lead us to do, and deliberately pursuing things you lead us away from. Forgive us O Lord, and have mercy upon us. Hear us now as we individually confess our sins to you. [Silence for self-examination and personal confession] O Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Have mercy on us. In your compassion forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, for your name’s sake. Grant us repentant hearts, and keep us close to you. We ask this for your glory, that your will might be done on earth, and in our lives, as it is done in heaven. Amen. 4 fi fl

He Speaks With Authority Old Testament Scripture Daniel 7: 13-14 13 “I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. 14 And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed. Reader: God, we thank you for Your Word. All: e story of Your grace. 8 Th
New Testament Scripture Mark 1: 21-34 21 And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue and was teaching. 22 And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes. 23 And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, 24 “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are— the Holy One of God.” 25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” 26 And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, came out of him. 27 And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” 28 And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee. 29 And immediately he left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 Now Simon’s mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. 31 And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them. 32 at evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or oppressed by demons. 33 And the whole city was gathered together at the door. 34 And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. Reader: is is God’s Word. All: And it is true! 9 Th Th
