After saying initially they didn’t
like fish, they certainly showed
their resilience in the preparation
(filleting, boning, cooking) of
fresh fish landed at Exmouth with
amazing results and happy faces
at the end.

Performance Platforms…
Following the success of the lockdown performance
platforms we managed to create two this year. One in
October and one at the end of the Spring term. These
include fantastic performances from students mostly in
years 9-11. As usual their performances were to a
wonderful standard and they should be proud of their
contributions.

Powderham Live
At the start of the academic year many of our key stage 4
students auditioned to be part of the annual Powderham Live
mentoring programme and concert. Around 10 of our students
were successful and began online or face to face sessions with
mentors such as the Countess of Devon, AJ Courtenay, and
former Isca student Sadie Horler. Preparations were put on hold
during further lockdowns but students have now begun
rehearsing safely within Powderham’s music room and there is
due to be a performance at the end of summer or the start of the
autumn term. The students are representing Isca fantastically

!Performing Arts
Winter Whirligig
This is our usual end of Autumn term / Christmas performance. It
took the form of a video this year and the standard was as high as
ever. The students worked incredibly hard to produce
performances within the restrictions and we are grateful to the staff
for learning how to create something at scale in such a short space
of time. It also includes snippets from students who have English
as an additional language telling us what Christmas is like where
they or their family come from. This was really special and was a
great way to end the term.

Year 11 Unit 2 Online Events
The BTEC First Award in Music requires students to complete a unit called ‘managing
a Music product’. This usually involves planning and delivering a concert within the
school grounds. But this year the unit was completed during the lockdown at the start
of 2021. Students were amazing at adapting to the situation and had group meetings
on Google Meet and used jam boards and Google Classroom to pull their ideas
together and pull of some fantastic online events. They created radio shows that were
to be aired on Phonic FM, podcasts, playlists and released their own EPs on

Isca Overground…
Similar to the Winter Whirligig, we have gone with a video for the end of term
concert. Isca underground usually includes almost 100 students busking at
various stations around the school site. We initially wanted to do it outside and
had changed the name to Isca Overground. But restrictions continued so we
created a video. To keep with the overground theme most of the performances
have been filmed in outside locations or in interesting locations around the school
site. It includes montages of key stage 3 soloists and of snippets from up and
coming talent from feeder primary schools as well as performances from school
clubs and our key stage 4 musicians. Students should be really proud of their
work and hopefully it can be enjoyed with a cold lemonade on the final evening of
term.
