Ireland Situated in the North West of Europe, this small country of just over four and a half million inhabitants has a remarkable standing in the world. The Irish are renowned for their friendliness and their tradition of hospitality. They have also gained a reputation for academic excellence. Education and the skills of communication have always been highly valued and Ireland has produced many famous writers such as Jonathan Swift, Oscar Wilde and James Joyce. Ireland genuinely welcomes visitors from all over the world, and provides an ideal environment for English language learning. Ireland has undergone rapid industrial and economic development over the past thirty years but without losing its own distinctive identity or its strong sense of traditional values. Visitors marvel at the striking landscapes, the green unspoilt countryside, clean beaches and magnificent coastline. Dublin and its Environs Dublin is a lively, friendly and safe city with its vibrant student life by day and night. There are art galleries, zoological gardens, museums, theatres, cinemas, restaurants, night clubs and pubs with traditional music – most of these easily accessible from Griffith College – all contributing to the renowned ambiance of this cosmopolitan, dynamic city with its long tradition of learning and culture. Few capital cities enjoy such a beautiful setting: the sweep of Dublin Bay from Howth to Killiney and the Wicklow Mountains to the south are within easy reach of the city centre and offer wonderful leisure opportunities. Breathtaking landscapes and hidden corners await the explorer. Studying at Griffith College For those needing to perfect their English, and possibly unsure of their career path, Griffith College has introduced an innovative one year (or one semester) programme. It allows the students to gain in independence, to sample different subjects, all the while broadening and deepening their English and widening their cultural horizons. Students completing such a year will be more confident and better prepared to make their choice of career on their return to their native country. Alternatively, a student may choose to continue his or her studies at Griffith College or in another English speaking country. There are numerous options from which to choose, all within the college faculties: Journalism & Visual Media; Law; Business; Marketing; Accounting & Finance; Computer Science; International Hospitality Management; Interior Design; Interior Architecture, Fashion Design and Photography. The Leinster School of Music & Drama also offers courses. We strongly recommend this programme for a worthwhile and productive transition/ gap year following completion of second level education. It would also be ideal for students who have completed a third level diploma or certificate and who are seeking re-orientation in their career. . 3
