Welcome to Bandera Market! Bandera Market is one of the fastest growing farmer’s markets in San Antonio and we are proud of the reasons why. A Place to Survive and Thrive At a time when so many small business entrepreneurs have been forced to shut down their shops and lay off employees because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Bandera Market is flourishing by offering a place for its Vendors to survive and thrive. In providing a safe and family-friendly outdoor space for Vendors to set up shop on the weekends, Bandera Market gives small, local businesses the opportunity to stay in business and prosper, as well as play an active role in the Buy Local / Support Small Business movements.1 These movements now drive upwards of $20 billion in customer spending during the annual winter holiday season, 2 the season when most small businesses earn upwards of 50% of their annual sales. Celebrated on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday has been widely embraced by companies and communities all across in America. Small Business Saturday has become so well established that major financial institutions, as well as local municipalities now heavily promote it every year. In addition to public service announcements in the local media, various companies and news media also highlight local companies on the Internet for web surfers and shoppers who are specifically searching for small businesses they can support in their area. Location, Location, Location Bandera Market sets-up every weekend in a prime westside location: the bustling Bandera Pointe Shopping Center off the 1604 and Bandera in San Antonio, on the border between Helotes and San Antonio/Leon Valley. Our address is 11627 Bandera Road San Antonio, TX 78250. 1 The initial concept for the Support Small Business movement was first introduced by American Express in 2010 With its Small Business Saturday, AmEx’s objective was to support small businesses and put them in the spotlight amid the recession that occurred following the 2008 crash and financial crisis. 2 https://www.sba.gov/about-sba/sba-newsroom/press-releases-media-advisories/nearly-20-billion-spent-americans- small-business-saturdayr
Continuous Traffic Flow, Repeat Customers The flow of traffic into and around Bandera Market is continuous from early morning well into the evening hours every day of the week. With a T.J. Maxx, Target, Lowe’s, Barnes & Noble, Ross, Kohl’s, and other national brand stores located on the same property, our Vendors benefit from the fact that a high percentage of shoppers who are repeat customers of these big brand stores are now repeat customers at Bandera Market. About Bandera Market Bandera Market is a women and veteran owned farmer’s market. In addition to establishing and maintaining a safe and family-and-pet-friendly outdoor space for our Vendors to sell their goods, our top priorities are to do everything we can to help ensure our Vendors achieve the success they seek at the market and that we keep the market customers coming back. If you have never been a farmer’s market Vendor before, take heart. We can help. To get your started on the right path and to share our experience and lessons learned, we have compiled a “Tips and Tricks” section here on this Welcome to Bandera Market site. The Bandera Market site holds up to 80 Vendors. Currently, we are adhering to all to Centers for Disease Control (CDC) social distancing, mask, and hand sanitizer recommendations. To keep the market area safe for everyone, these requirements are not negotiable. We accept all types of Vendors and strive to create an eclectic shopping experience for Bandera Market customers. Most of our Vendors are small local businesses that grow, create, and sell their Texas made-and-produced items. In order to keep and grow Bandera Market’s repeat customer base, we work diligently to maintain a nice balance, including, for example, the farmers who sell fruits and veggies, specialty food producers, including chocolate and local honey, and, of course, crafts, jewelry, décor, and art of all kinds. Customers can find a little bit of everything Texas here—something they tell us they especially like about Bandera Market. They also tell us that just about everything our Vendors sell also make for excellent gifts they can send to family and friends living in other parts of America, no matter the holiday or special occasion or time of year. Pre-Pay and Save We offer monthly and daily rates for spots, which are assigned on a first come first- served basis. We also offer pre-paid monthly specials.
In fact, we highly recommend that our Vendors take advantage of our prepaid monthly specials, because they offer the best deals and as a monthly Vendor you get an assigned spot for that month and beyond if you continue on the pre-pay plan. Once you purchase a monthly special, we will show you the spots that are available and you choose the one you like best. More on that later! Understanding the value of marketing and promotion, we advertise Bandera Market across most local media platforms. We place digital and print ads and advertise on social media, and use sign spinners around the outer perimeters of the market every market. We also post signs all over the Bandera Pointe Shopping Center, which borders the market area. With the exception of holidays (noted below), Bandera Market is open every weekend and on Special Night Markets. Bandera Market Hours of Operation: Saturdays 10-5 pm / Sundays 11-5 pm / Night Events 4-9 pm Set-up begins 2 hours prior to market opening Special Night Markets We hold a special night market each month on a Friday, except December where we have 4-night markets! Rates: 1. Monthly Prepaid discount: This prepaid discount is to be paid by the 15th of the previous month. For example: A January prepaid rate would be due by 12/15. A February prepaid rate would be due 1/15, and so on. a. These prepaid monthly rates offer a steep discount from the cost of purchasing individual weekend rates. Since each month is different based on the dates that we are open, the monthly rate is announced the first Monday of the beginning of a new month for the following month. For example, the monthly rate for January is determined on the first Monday of December and your payment is due on Dec. 15th; the monthly rate for February is determined on the first Monday in January, and payment is due on Jan. 15th. i.This gives Vendors about two (2) weeks to pay the prepaid monthly rate for the following month. When we announce the rates by email and on our private Facebook page, Vendors will be able to click on the Bandera Market Pay Link and check out right away. NOTE: The Bandera Market pay link only allows Vendors to purchase the space for one canopy. ii. If you need to purchase space for a second canopy, please let the Market Coordinator know. She will send you an invoice to pay for the second canopy. The cost of the space for the extra canopy is $30. iii. Monthly rates include 2-4 FREE days to account for any potential closings caused by inclement weather. b. Vendors who choose our prepaid monthly rate get to choose an assigned spot from the spots that are available. This is a significant benefit because your repeat customers will know right where to find you—and that aids in customers returning, as well as your brand recognition. However, if you buy one month and then do not renew, you will likely lose the spot and we will place you in another spot based on availability. c. Prepaid monthly rates are not refundable. There will be no make-up days unless there are more days of market cancellations than free days. It is important to note however that we have never had this happen to date. d. If there should be an extended closure of the market, because of Covid-19 or any other unforeseen event, then we will refund payments once the market has been closed for 45 consecutive market days. 2. We offer prepaid daily rates that are also discounted each month. Like the prepaid monthly rate, the prepaid daily rate must be paid by the 15th of the previous month. For example: January prepaid rate would need to be paid by 12/15; February prepaid rate would need to be paid by 1/15, and so on, as above. a. If you purchase more than 4 days, the fee is $30 per day if pre-paid by the 15th of previous month. b. If you purchase less than 4 days, the fee is $35 per day if pre-paid by the 15th of previous month. 3. Past the pre-pay deadline—the 15th of the previous month—all rates go up to $40 per day unless you are a new Vendor.
4. New Vendors will be given their FIRST weekend for $60, that weekend being a consecutive Saturday and Sunday. a. * We also have special rates for the following groups: i. $20/day: Young Entrepreneur: To qualify, these Vendors must be under 18 and actively selling their products at the market. In other words, it is the Young Entrepreneur’s business, not their parents’ business, and the Young Entrepreneur is required to be present at all times. ii. $20/day: Not for Profit: Must be a 501(c)(3), and able to provide proof. iii. $20/day: Artist Rate for Paintings: The artist must sell only paintings and artwork suitable for hanging on walls. These works of art are painted with a brush, spray can, etc. Mosaics are allowed if they are placed on a canvas for hanging. The Bandera Market staff holds 100% discretion as to who qualifies for this rate. Becoming a Bandera Market Vendor Application In order to become a Vendor at Bandera Market, you must apply. Our application is straightforward and serves to ensure that everyone is on the same page. For you, the Vendor, this enables us to get to know you and thus better serve you. For us, it confirms that we have a good mix of goods, produce, and products. You will find the application form on our website under “Become a Vendor.” Here is the direct link to the Vendor application page: https://www.banderamarket.com/become-a- Vendor. We reply to applications each week, Monday through Thursday. Please make sure to list all products that you intend to sell at the market on your application. Only products we approve are allowed at the market. If you would like to add more products than you initially listed, please contact us with your the request. If you send in your application Friday through Sunday, please be patient. We are preparing for or at the market during these days; therefore, we are unable to reply to applications because we are focused on our Vendors and the success of the market. If by chance, you are interested in coming on a Saturday or Sunday and applied as a new Vendor on a Friday after 2 pm, please call us, as we will not be able to respond to your application until the following Monday. Also, please keep in mind that we do sell out often. However, if you call us and we have space and you have already applied, then we will do our absolute best to accommodate you as a “pop-up” Vendor.
Once you complete an application and we accept you as an established Vendor, you do not need to reapply. To come back to the market following your first weekend (which is not on your application), just let us know and we will send you an invoice for the new dates that you send us. Simply send us a text message at 740-563-2274, call us at the same number, email us info@banderamarket.com or tell the Market Coordinator at check-in during one of the market days. If it has been more than one year since you have applied to become a Vendor and have not attended the market in over one year, we ask that you please reapply. Communication Direct communication is as critical as it is mutually beneficial for you, the Vendor, and Bandera Market personnel. Therefore, to ensure smooth operations, we request that you establish an open line of direct communication with Bandera Market directors right away, so that we are able to communicate with you promptly and efficiently. Our primary means of communication with our Vendors are 1) email, 2) text, 3) Phone call or 4) via our established Private Vendor Page on Facebook found here: Vendors Only - Bandera Market | Facebook or by searching “Vendors Only-Bandera Market.” We use all four of these forms of direct communication methods. Please establish one method or more for us to communicate directly, from the options below: 1. Email. Please make sure that you add info@banderamarket.com & andria@banderamarket.com to your safe senders’ list in your email settings. Since we send mass emails, many servers will automatically route those emails into your spam file or block us all together. If you do not add us to the safe senders list for your email, you might miss important communications from us, including deadlines for discounts, valuable event information, including cancellations or time changes, among other things. 2. Text. You may text us directly at 740-563-2274 and all Bandera Market staff will receive the message. One of us will get back to you as soon as possible. 3. Telephone. Want to communicate with us by phone? We’d love to talk with you. You may call us at 740-563-2274 7 days a week 9 am- 6 pm. If we are unable to answer, please leave a message with the number where we can reach you or any other method by which you would like to communicate. One of our staff will return your call as soon as possible. Please keep in mind that we are at the market on the weekends and one Friday each month for a night market. If you call or email during Bandera Market Event hours, we may not be able to get back to you until the next business day. For emergencies, we ask that you please text us, so that we can easily glance at phone, read your message, and handle the issue while we are at the market.
4. Bandera Market Private Vendor Page: To find our Facebook Vendors group, please go to Facebook, then “Groups.” In the search bar, look for “Vendors Only- Bandera Market” and request to be added to our private page by answering all the group’s questions when you submit request. Or, you can just click here (while holding ctrl key): Vendors Only - Bandera Market | Facebook. Canopies As a Bandera Market Vendor, you are responsible for your own canopy or tent. We require 10 x 10 canopies or smaller. Canopies bigger than 10 x 10 will incur an extra fee. We recommend buying a canopy with a flap in the middle where air can escape on windy days. Safety Requirement We require 20-pound weights on each leg of your canopy or tent. Each weighted leg must be secured—that means tied down with a bungee or rope. We take the safety and security of our Vendors and customers very seriously, as does the City of San Antonio and the State of Texas. On a windy day, if you do not have 20- pound weights on each leg of your canopy or tent and they are not tied down, your canopy or tent could literally fly away, and hurt someone or cause damages to other Vendors’ sites. Please think of your “neighbors” as well as Bandera Market shoppers when you set-up your canopy/tent—and take these safety requirements as seriously just like we do. We are all in this together. And together we will make Bandera Market the best farmer’s market in all of Texas! If we see that you do not have proper weights during set-up, we will not allow you to complete your set up until you rectify this necessary Bandera Market regulation. If you have not brought the required weights, you can easily resolve the situation by going across the street to Lowe’s where you can buy 20-pound concrete bricks to secure your canopy or tent. If we see that you do not have the proper weights after set-up, then we will ask you to put your canopy or tent down until you acquire the proper weights and secure your canopy or tent. We believe that this part of the set-up at Bandera Market will become second nature. If, however, this issue occurs more than once, you will be subject to expulsion from the market. Please understand: this is for the safety of all Vendors, customers, Bandera Market personnel—and for you too.
We look forward to assisting you in any and all reasonable ways to help you and your small business achieve success at Bandera Market. If there is anything we can do to help you be more successful at our market, please do not hesitate to contact one of our administrative staff members: Andria Lugo Gilda Mitat-Del Valle 740-563-2274 740-563-2274 Andria@banderamarket.com Info@banderamarket.com We thank you for your interest in Bandera Market!
