Children’s Swim Instruction High Demand Class Swim classes follow the American Red Cross guidelines. See below for prerequisites and class descriptions. All students will be tested at the first class to ensure proper level placement. We reserve the right to move students to the correct level. Children may have to repeat a level before all skills are completed satisfactorily. Must be AT LEAST age 6. Level 1A - Intro to Water Skills Learn and practice submerging, breath control, floats (front and back), safety skills, and the front crawl (arms, kicking, and coordination). Level 1B - Intro to Water Skills Passed Level 1A; learn and practice breath control, safety skills, and front crawl (proper rotary breathing, arms, kicking and coordination). Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills Passed Level 1B; learn glides, bobbing, back crawl, elementary backstroke kick, jumping into deep water, treading water, and continue practicing coordinated front crawl. Level 3 - Stroke Development Passed Level 2; learn elementary back stroke, butterfly kick and body motion, scissors kick, treading water (deep), kneeling dive into deep water, increase endurance, and coordinated front and back crawl. Level 4A - Stroke Improvement Passed Level 3; learn breaststroke and standing dive, refine elementary backstroke, increase distance for front and back crawl. Level 4B - Stroke Development Passed Level 4A; learn sidestroke and butterfly, refine elementary backstroke, front & back crawl, and breaststroke. To s a A q u a t i c C l u b (USA Competitive Swim Team) Tosa Aquatic Club, a USA Competitive Swim Team, offers a full-scale competitive swimming program for swimmers ages 6 - 18. Improvement in technique and speed will be worked on and good sportsmanship and self-motivation will be learned. Entry level swimmers must be capable of swimming 25 continuous yards (the length of Wauwatosa East, Wauwatosa West and Whitman pools) of front crawl and backstroke in good form. Other training groups have higher minimum requirements. Practices are held at West and Whitman pools (Tosa East’s pool is currently closed), as well at TOSA Pool during the summer. Fees range from $200 and up per season, based on group place- ment and ability level. SPRING SEASON for Iron through Gold begins March 30, Juniors and Seniors begins March 23. SPRING/SUMMER SESSION REGISTRATION SAVE THE DATE: Resident registration begins Thursday, March 12 at 9:00am, Non-resident registration begins Monday, March 16. Evaluations will be held at West, Tuesday, March 10, 6:00-7:30pm to help you determine the appropriate training group. Please Note: All registrations are done through the Wauwatosa Recreation Department. There is currently a waiting list for entry into some training groups. Wait lists are not kept from season to season as practice times change.
