Hillcrest Centre - Information hillcrestcommunitycentre.ca President’s Message It is my pleasure to again address the members of the Riley Park Hillcrest Community Association and those people in the community that use the centre, on behalf of the RPHCA Board of Directors. It’s been a very productive year where we have continued to improve the association for the benefit of all those that use the centre. We are the best run community centre in the city and our Directors and Members should be proud. As president of RPHCA I and the Board want to ensure the greatest possible inclusion and Ken Charko, interaction of the community, we are committed that the cost should never be a barrier President RPHCA to participation in our programs. The past 6 months alone, the RPHCA has provided financial subsidies to allow community members participate in programs that we provide otherwise were unable to. We have provided major community scholarships to the 2019 graduating class at Sir Charles Tupper and Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School. Moreover, our association strives to be the best community centre in the city that not only gives the community great opportunities but also their employees. We have made our wages competitive and provide optimal support and environment for our employees. Our Ray Chang, goal is to create a positive and happy environment at the centre. Director RPHCA I want to also take this time to highlight Ray Chung who has been a director for the past five years, he grew up in the area, graduated the CPA program at UBC and taught at the local collage. Ray was voted director of the year by the board. Ray is a retired CPA, Father, grandfather and is liked by all involved. Some of the improvements you will notice this year are our new and improved website (www. HillcrestCommunityCentre.com), we are working to optimize and redesign our brochure, add a Facebook page and an Instagram account. I want to highlight some new members Levina and Divya who will be working with us and expanding our social media presence in the community. Our social media will be posting daily features, photos, news and updates. The community will have the option to send questions or concerns to the Facebook page where a response will be given shortly, Follow us @ HillcrestCommunityCentre . I am excited and proud of the work we have done here at the RPHCA this year. We have just finished hosting our annual summer festival that had our best attendance ever. The programs committee lead by Ray Chang and his team of directors. Next year the committee is looking at expanding to include an Ethnic food component. A big thank you to all the directors involved and the volunteers who were present and made this event the success it was. Please join us for the following upcoming events and celebrate the joy of the community. The next event you might want to mark in your schedule is Halloween celebration where we will be hosting many tricks and treats for you. We are still negotiating a new JOA (Joint Operations Agreement) with the city. We expect an update in the next couple of months and we will keep you updated on our website. Members and non-members please let me reiterate my availability to you Contact me at anytime through my email at President@RPHCA.ca or through the website. I look forward to your comments and feedback. Cheers, Ken Charko he/him/his 2 Visit our website for schedule updates and additional programs. Fall 2019 Program Guide
