FROM THE ROAD All Aboard After taking last year off for COVID, the Wallace’s Express Train is back in action to take kids on a colorful tour of the poinsettias in the greenhouse. While the holidays are behind us, it’s never too early to plan ahead. Take note of these garden center displays to consider for your 2022 holiday season. By Teresa McPherson and Tim Hodson Santa’s Got a New Sleigh Rudolph and Co. have a little competition as Santa uses a new Wallace’s Garden Center | Bettendorf, Iowa mode of transportation to deliver toys to all the good boys and girls. Christmas Classic Poinsettias continue to be big business (both at retail and for fundraisers) for Wallace’s. This year they grew more than 9,300 cuttings of all shapes, sizes, colors and price points in a 20,000 sq. ft. greenhouse. 52 | LAWN & GARDEN RETAILER | JANUARY 2022
FROM THE ROAD Sprucing Up the Front Porch Live Christmas trees have always been big sellers at Wallace’s and the demand continued to be high in 2021. According to Kate Terrell, porch pot sales have also been climbing as these beauties were flying off the shelves and expected to sell out for the second year in a row. Smile! There are multiple photo ops throughout the store and in the greenhouse, like sitting next to Santa with milk and cookies. LGRMAG.COM | 53
