What is the ? ▪ Founded in 1910, Carnegie is ▪ Their mission is to advance the the oldest international cause of peace through affairs think tank analysis and development of fresh policy ideas and direct ▪ A unique global network of engagement and collaboration policy research centers in with decision makers in Russia, China, Europe, the government, business, and civil Middle East, and the US society ▪ Carnegie does not take institutional positions, Engage in lobbying, or involved in 2 ideological advocacy
What is the Gaither Junior Fellows Program? ▪ Formerly called the Carnegie Junior Fellows Program ▪ A one-year fellowship, beginning August 1st, at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace center in Washington D.C. ▪ Fellows work as research assistants to the endowment's senior associates: ▫ Conduct research for books ▫ Co author journal articles and policy papers ▫ Participate in meetings with high level officials ▫ Contribute to congressional testimony ▫ Organize briefings attended by scholars, journalists, and 3 government officials
GJF Program Benefits ▪ Semi-monthly salary is ▪ Join notable Alumni: $1,750.00 (equivalent to $42,000 annually) ▫ Pulitzer Prize winner Samantha Power- U.S. ▪ Full benefits package is Ambassador to the UN also provided- including vacation leave, medical, ▫ George Stephanopoulos- Anchor of ABC’s Good dental and life insurance Morning America and ▪ GJFs are responsible for previously the senior their own housing adviser to President Bill arrangements Clinton 4
Eligibility ▪ Graduating seniors; or alum who have graduated within the last academic year ▫ Current grad students are ineligible ▪ Recommended 3.5 GPA ▫ No min GPA required ▪ See additional project eligibility requirements 5
Application Process ▪ Only 12-14 fellowships available annually ▫ Approximately 215 applications were received in 2016 from 137 institutions ▪ Applicants must choose one project assignment (see next slide) ▪ LMU can only nominate up to 3 students for the national competition 6

Important Dates December 18: LMU Campus Application Deadline All application materials must be submitted to ONIF, including essays and letters of rec. See Blackboard course for resources & submission link January 4-8: Virtual Campus interviews with ONIF, via Zoom January 8: ONIF will notify you if you have been nominated for the national competition January 15: Gaither Junior Fellows Program National Deadline Feb- March: Nationally selected applicants interviewed March 31: National selections & candidate notifications 12
