To continue to fund our core work, the Administrative Team has closely evaluated our giving this year and our plans to fulfill the church’s vision and values for 2022. All of us have been deeply affected on many levels by the ongoing Covid pandemic. And the resulting uncertainty can produce hesitancy to financially support your church. Remembering that God "loves a cheerful giver" and that "where there is a willingness," we trust God through God's people to provide for our needs. That's true whether through monetary giving or volunteering your time or prayerfully supporting the needs in our church. This church would love to continue the many vital ministries that we are engaged in during the coming year. To run these ministries effectively, the church needs to generate the revenue to sustain them. Our church’s Administrative Team encourages you to keep doing what you're doing. Also, please keep in mind the many ways in which your gifts, like the “loaves and fishes” Jesus multiplied, have been used to bless our neighbors in need, whether refugees, or children, or the poor. And our giving not only blesses them, but blesses us by being Jesus’ followers in tangible ways. We encourage congregants to give generously for the remainder of 2021 and to consider raising your pledge for 2022. On behalf of the entire Administrative Team, I thank you for your generosity with your time, talent, and money. Sincerely, Tim Guirl, EUMC Finance Representative
THIS IS US // 2021-2022 Our giving changes the world. It also changes us. It slowly creates a total way of life in which we realize that everything we have is from God, that we have been gifted and are therefore called to WE GIVE BECAUSE... pass on the gift to someone else: to use our resources wisely and generously. Stewardship is recognizing that all we have comes from God. It is seeing God’s hand and blessings all around us in people, in events, and in nature. With grateful hearts, we return to God a tithe through giving our time, talents and treasure. We, throughout our marriage, have tried to practice giving away 10%, saving 10%, and living joyfully on the remainder. Dick & Christine Gibson Our family makes giving to EUMC a priority because it fosters the type of spiritual community that we want our children to grow up in. EUMC demonstrates and encourages diversity, inclusion and the type of unconditional love we need in the faith community so that God's love can be felt by EVERYONE. So thankful for this church and all the ways it continues to remind us of God's love. Rebecca Alfonso We always felt it important to support the works of the church. We receive so much more in return. A facility for gathering, community use, pastors and staff, reaching out to others beyond the walls of the church. All of these services represent a Christ-like use of our resources. It is difficult for me to imagine a more lasting, positive use. Floyd Barker
THIS IS US // 2021-2022 OUR DREAMS IN 2022 Mission + Outreach These gifts enable us to offer a special assistance fund to community members, as well as provide support for the outreach ministries of Advocates for Justice, Climate Change, Gun Violence Prevention, Immigration Justice, Refugee support, Hunger Advocacy, Palestinian Justice, Racial Justice. Music & Worship We're proud to be the home of one of the finest church music departments in the Pacific Northwest. Covid has increased the cost of providing this marvelous ministry, from more hired musicians to new audio-visual needs. We're excited to share our love and gifts of music with many new friends. Pastoral Team These gifts enable our two pastors to guide and support many of our ministries. From preaching, supervising staff, leading classes, to offering pastoral care, facilitating worship, advocating for justice in our community, and strengthening our administrative processes, we're grateful to invest in our pastoral team. Congregational Care These gifts make possible the ministry of our congregational care team, from library maintenance though small caring needs such as cards and postage. Adult Spiritual Formation These gifts support materials and supplies for the faith formation of adults. Children, Youth & Family Ministry These gifts support transformative ministries with our children, youth, and their families. We support everything from snacks, art supplies, confirmation, the Christmas Eve pageant, Club 456, nursery supplies, intergenerational events, and youth group outings. Administrative Ministry These gifts provide the support structure for every single ministry we offer. From support staff, paper, computers, and bank fees, to professional development, insurance, bookkeeping, and advertising, these generous gifts make it happen! Building & Grounds These gifts enable us to have space to gather and serve our community. We provide electricity, internet, van maintenance, upgrades to our HVAC, fire safety, and other utilities. This enables us to share space with the Edmonds Food Bank, AA groups, Scouting groups, and other community partners. We're honored to pay our apportionments each year as a way to support other United Methodist Churches and ministries around the globe.
THIS IS US // 2021-2022 Children's Center The Children’s Center is a ministry of Edmonds UMC. It operates as a self contained not-for-profit daycare. It supports both market based childcare and subsidized day care to those that need it. It is challenged, like all daycares, with hiring staff to meet the need, Covid challenges, and affording fair wages and benefits to the staff. Their funding is from tuition and grants. In 2021, they received a $10,000 grant from the Kathlyn James Endowment Fund. The church does bear the risk of cash shortfall and in 2021 provided $20,000 additional funds to cover some of the challenges mentioned above. Additional funding is not planned or budgeted for 2022. THIS IS US // 2021-2022 STEP CHALLENGE We have an interesting question to pose this year. For some, the pandemic meant their financial health took a big hit. For others, this was not the case. If so, we invite you to prayerfully consider completing a pledge card with a number in the next category up from your current giving. If you're brand new to pledging at Edmonds United Methodist, we're delighted for you to join us anywhere on the chart that feels faithful and sustainable for you in this season. THIS IS US // 2021-2022 WE GIVE BECAUSE... We see giving as a spiritual practice. We grew up giving to the church and confirmed early in our marriage that it was something we wanted to continue. When we tithe, it is a ritual to notice it's a gift for us to earn what we do and a privilege and responsibility to give back to God. Personally, sometimes when I haven't tithed in a bit and I'm calculating my giving, I think "Wow, that's a lot of money, do I really want to part with it?" and then I think, "Oh, but that means that I have been given ten times that much in my life. I guess I really am blessed." Tithing Dave & Brittany Dean has been a tangible way for us to trust God by giving up a measure of this security. After 25 of membership at another church, we visited EUMC one June day in 1999. Together, we both felt we had arrived home. It didn’t take us long to feel the family connection with all the wonderful/welcoming people of EUMC. Having a home and family means taking care of both. And then there is God, who has given us so much. Don’t we give back when we are given such gifts? That is why we give to our God, family and church of EUMC. We are so blessed. Howard & Claudia Carr I give because I believe in the programs and positions of Edmond United Methodist Church, and I want to help assure that its work continues. I also believe that I am called to step up and be counted in a number of ways, social action is one way and giving is another. And my contribution gives me a warm feeling that I am sharing my resources to help make other lives better. Gayla Shoemake We’ve continued to give our offerings each month because we know that everything we have already belongs to God, because we believe Jesus wasn’t kidding when he said WHOSOEVER and because the Spirit calls us to join God and God’s people in ministry. Aaron & Steve Franco-Ross
THIS IS US // 2021-2022 We build the budget based on WHAT IS A PLEDGE? every single pledge that comes in! What’s a pledge? A pledge is a commitment to give a certain amount of money to the church in 2022. Everyone is invited to fill out the enclosed blue pledge card to turn in on Sunday, November 14 in worship or via mail. You may also visit edmondsumc.org/pledge to download and email in your pledge card. Why are pledges helpful in a church? Our budget for ministry, staff, facilities and mission is funded by the generosity of the people in this faith community. We don’t depend on any other income stream. Pledge cards enable us to responsibly plan for 2022. We want to be great stewards of the gifts given so your card helps us do that. How much should I pledge? Take time to pray and think about it. We encourage giving a deliberately- chosen percentage of gross income. We are challenged to set a tithe (the Biblical word for 10% of our income) as the giving goal in our lives. Start where you can and begin the journey. Some fully tithe or give more than a tithe; others take an incremental approach - increasing their gift by 1%, 2%, or 3% per year - to gradually move toward 10%. What if my financial circumstances change? If you need to change your commitment at any time, just let us know. Contact Denise Williams at denisew@edmondsumc.org. Questions? Contact Tim Guirl at t.guirl@comcast.net or 206-542-7696. Remember! A pledge is simply a commitment to give in 2022. We're each invited to set up our gift starting in January 2022 through one of the ways on the Included documents. WAYS TO GIVE Set up an automatic recurring gift with your bank account, credit or debit card. Place cash or check in offering plate during Sunday worship. Mail in a check to 828 Caspers St. Edmonds, WA 98020. Give online with credit card via website at www.edmondsumc.org/give.
