Twin Lights Klondike Derby Start Times (Up to 5 sleds in each time slot) 8:30 8:40 8:50 9:00 9:10 9:20 9:30 Patrols and Sleds Each patrol must have their own sled and equipment to use throughout the event. The equipment list is included in this manual. Each Scout should have lunch to eat along the trail along with water. Your sled should have your sled number and patrol flag clearly displayed. Arrow of Light and Webelos Scouts AOL and Webelos Scouts are invited to participate in all stations. There must be two registered leaders accompanying each patrol. One leader may provide guidance to the Scouts at each station. All scoring is done in whole points – no fractional points. No bonus points. All stations are scored except for the Golden Nugget. Each sled is required to visit towns in the order presented on their scorecard. The scheduled town may authorize you to proceed to the next town if they are at capacity and anticipate an extended delay (as judged by the Mayor of that town). If this occurs, the Mayor will mark the authorization on your scorecard. Please complete the remainder of your schedule and return to the skipped town at the end. Governor’s Grants are available from the Governor and authorized designees (such as the Lt. Governor.) The Governor’s Grant will consist of 5 questions for a possible total of 25 points. Twin Lights Klondike Derby 2022 Klondike Supply List ● 1 pen or pencil per patrol; and 1 notepad per patrol ● Boy Scout Handbook (any recent version) ● Each scout should have a bag Lunch and drinking water. Stay Hydrated, even in the winter! ● Snacks and other food are available for purchase at the Golden Nugget. Bring some money if you would like to buy something. Food menu will be available before the event ● 1 – 25’ length of rope per patrol ● 1 working compass per patrol; and 1 whistle ● 1 good sized blanket per patrol ● 1 pair each of leg and arm splint boards per patrol ● 1 pair of first aid gloves per scout ● A supply of bandages or facsimile (so as not to waste sterile supplies) per patrol ● 1 gallon of water per patrol ● Bundle of Tinder and Kindling per patrol ● Enough firewood for a 15 minute fire (no accelerants) ● Flint and steel (optional) ● 1 Blindfold ● 4 Scout Neckerchiefs ● 1 gallon of water per sled ● 1 garbage bag per sled (take your trash with you) ● 1 metal fork and 1 metal spoon for each patrol member ● 1 pair of fireproof gloves per sled ● 1 pair of food handling gloves per Scout ● Brownie mix, 2 eggs, ½ cup vegetable oil, ¼ cup water ● 1 medium orange per Scout ● 1 12” x 12” sheet of aluminum foil ● 1 pot holder per sled ● 1 set of tongs per sled ● 10 pounds of charcoal per sled ● 5 pounds of ingenuity per sled ● Paper towels or wipes ● 1 can of chicken noodle soup per scout ● 1 cup suitable for hot liquid per scout ● 1 Spoon per Scout ● 3 flashlights ● 2 cravats ● 2 long staves ● 4 lashing ropes (should be 5' each) 4 Last Revision: 12/21/2022
Twin Lights Klondike Derby General Rules (in all cases, the Mayor may designate additional Town Officials to assist) Show Scout Spirit for maximum points! Make sure your Patrol Flag and name are clearly visible. And enter each town chanting your Patrol Cheer LOUDLY AND CLEARLY. On-Site Registration Check in at Dawson at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled start time. Bring your completed sled roster form. The Patrol Leader is responsible for this form, and will be scored based on their level of preparation for registration. (Remember – this is a town, too.) Each unit leader should separately report to registration with a Unit Consolidation form to settle registrations for all sleds in the unit. This is not included in scoring for registration. You will receive a packet with a map, official scorecard and a ticket for each registered member of your sled to receive a cup of hot chocolate at the Golden Nugget. Weigh-in At least 15 minutes before your scheduled start time, present your sled to the Mayor of Bonanza Creek. Your sled must weigh at least 80 pounds. The Mayor will verify unit information, Patrol name and Patrol flag Starting Proceed to the starting line 5 minutes before your scheduled time. The starter will verify your start time, confirm that you know where you’re going and declare the official start. At Each Town…. The Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader should proceed to check-in for the town, with the remainder of the patrol staying with the sled. A Town Official will record your arrival time and provide instruction on their challenge. Remember that a Scout is Courteous. Upon completion of the challenge, a Town Official will record your completion time and town score. Time records here are strictly informational. TOWNS WILL NOT ACCEPT NEW SLEDS AFTER 3 PM. Golden Nugget You may visit the Golden Nugget at any time during the day. When you’re done… Return to Dawson to submit your final scorecard.
