Meet Our Parishioners: Rhonda Craig My name is Rhonda Craig. In 1955, my parents married in the little Assumption Church on the Pike, and they moved to Atco. When I was young, I remember coming to church while my mother directed the choir. I went to Assumption School. After college, I worked for the Diocese of Camden as the graphic artist for the Catholic Star Herald. In 1990 I completely changed my career, taking a job in the Emergency Room at West Jersey Hospital (now Virtua) as an ER tech. I returned to college in 1999 and became a Paramedic. In 2016, after 26 years with Virtua I retired. In 2001 I married David and we have 6 children and 9 grandchildren. Assumption Church has always been a very big part of my life. At 18 I became a lector. As a young mother with four children in Catholic School, I worked Bingo to offset the school tuition. In my mid 20’s, I became involved with the Youth Ministry. Through the youth I began singing the 6:15 Masses. Now anyone who knows me is aware I do not look at myself as a singer. I have an alto voice and I love to harmonize. I sang the 6:15 Mass with many wonderful partners including Jill MacKavanaugh, Maureen Nuzzi, Joseph Giampietro, all whom have beautiful voices. Eventually my own children became old enough to sing with me. I taught 6th & 8th grades CCD for the Religious Education Department. In 2015 I took the position of Music Director (now Director of Worship) here at Christ The Redeemer. I have always admired the men and women who are able to sing in front of the congregation. I love that saying “He who sings prays twice”. I fondly look back on my youth and love the countless hours my mother spent teaching me hymns and the great joy it gave her. I get it, I understand. Having a choir gives me that same joy. I am excited to announce that we are bringing back our adult, youth and children’s choirs. As I welcome back the faithful members, I also extend an invitation to all of you. Come join us. Share your voices. Double up your prayers and help us to spread God’s message through song. Think about how music affects your heart. “I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.” Psalm 104:33 6)43687)
