TWENTY EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME|OCTOBER 10, 2021 VIGÉSIMO OCTAVO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO | 10 DE OCTUBRE DE 2021 PASTOR’S CORNER Rincón Del Pastor What happens when Jesus is wrong? What happens when we recognize that something he said 2,000 years ago is incorrect? Today in our gospel from Mark 10 Jesus mistakenly says: “How hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!” Us modern folks need to update him, because in our contemporary outlook, everybody makes it to heaven. In our new and improved perspective, there’s no other place for us to go besides heaven. All of us know that we’re good people, we try to be nice, and we’re going to make it. Jesus meanwhile has a different message. “How hard it is,” he says. He describes it as being very easy to end up in a different destination: one we don’t even name any more. What makes Mark 10 even worse is that Jesus adds, “How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!” It’s as though he singled us out with our technology, our comforts, and warned us how hazardous our situation is today. What if we’re wrong? What if our self-satisfied comfort is easy to sink into, but the Word of Life actually is right? He’s warning us: can we hear his threat in time? Can we recognize that in the end only one thing matters, and today we need to change everything to make sure we get to where Jesus is? TWENTY EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME|OCTOBER 10, 2021 VIGÉSIMO OCTAVO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO | 10 DE OCTUBRE DE 2021 Rincón Del Pastor ¿Qué pasa cuando Jesús se equivoca?
