TULIP TALKS THE QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER FOR THE PNZCT NORTHERN REGION ISSUE 1 | MARCH 2021 Red Tulip Appeal April 2021 Parkinson's New Zealand annual appeal week has moved from November each year to April, to align with World Parkinson's Day. World Parkinson's Day is recognised on the 11th of April each year all around the world with various activities planned by Parkinson's Groups globally. To align our own activities with the global Parkinson's community, we have moved our Appeal week to April. This April, your local Action Group has various activities planned including the sale of tulip bulbs and collections at various supermarkets and malls in your region. PNZCT will have a fresh logo for the Red Tulip Appeal to complement our efforts to strengthen the public’s knowledge of the significance of the red tulip to our organisation. Appeal Week volunteers doing good for our cause in 2019. I look forward to working with local volunteers in the region to make this year's Red Tulip Appeal Can you spare two hours? Week a successful one. Your local Parkinson's Action Group is calling Karen Schade - Community Engagement Advisor for volunteers to join the Red Tulip Appeal Week team of collectors. Around New Zealand, your regional Action Groups are busy securing sites for collection stations and the sale of Tulip Bulbs to raise funds and awareness of Parkinson's. TULIP TALKS – NORTHERN REGION ISSUE 1 – MARCH 2021 Parkinson's New Zealand Charity Golf Tournament - Monday, March 1, 2021 Our annual golf tournament in Auckland is confirmed and we encourage all of those keen on golf to register a team. The tournament has raised over $50,000 for Parkinson's Nursing services in the Auckland region over the past four years. Held annually, the tournament has grown to become a key fundraising activity for the Auckland region. Ann Cambie who has co-ordinated the event four years running retires her services this year with our heartfelt thanks and appreciation. Volunteers Diane Nicholson and Sandie Jennins, both Parkinson's members and keen golfers, have stepped in to work with our National Office team to coordinate and run the event this year. As Wainui is undertaking greens maintenance this summer, we have moved the event to the popular Pupuke Golf Club in Campbells Bay. The Ambrose Tournament will tee off at 12.30 noon and will be followed by prize giving and dinner. Registration is just $500 per team of four. The event is supported by Summerset and Catalyst Group as major partners. Tulip Bulbs on Sale from April 1 The Tulip is the international symbol for Parkinson's and the red tulip is the official symbol of our organisation. Every year in April, Parkinson's Action Groups sell Tulip bulbs as part of their annual fundraising activities. This year we have six varieties of Tulips available. Tulip Bulbs will be sold as part of the Red Tulip Appeal from April and at social activities run by your local Six cheerful Tulip colours to choose from in 2021. Action Group volunteers through April and May. Colours include a deep red, white, black, pink, yellow and orange, all of which have proven popular in recent years. Packets of five bulbs sell for $7.00. Tulips are very popular with growers, who typically do planting in May, to see Tulips blooming in Spring. All proceeds go towards supporting PNZCT services in the region. To secure your Tulip bulbs, speak to your Parkinson's Nurse or local Action Group members, or visit a Parkinson's collection stand during Awareness Week.
