MESSAGE FROM DR HASSEN ADAMS Executive Chairman of BURGER KING® South Africa BURGER KING® South Africa takes immense pride in sponsoring our Men’s U-20 National Team, Amajita. Working hand in hand with SAFA we provide opportunities to players who exude talent both on and off the pitch. The U-20 age group is a pivotal stepping stone in the development for our future senior international players. We regard football as a conduit to drive social cohesion, community development and upliftment. It is therefore imperative that we follow through on our objectives of developing young football players as we work toward achieving our goals set in place with ‘Vision 2022’. Right now the team has this opportunity to showcase its ability to the rest of the continent by competing at this CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Niger. This is not unfamiliar territory for the team – in 2017 the team finished in the top four of this same tournament hosted by Zambia to qualify for the World Cup. Another top four finish in Niger will send Amajita on their way to the World Cup in Poland - a tournament we would dearly love to return to for a fourth time after appearances in Malaysia (1997), Egypt (2009) and Korea Republic (2017). We arrive here as the COSAFA Champions from 2017 and 2018 and we are the only country representing Southern Africa in Niger. We wish all the players and managers well. May you have a “Whopper” of a 2019 season. Remember that there are young footballers in South Africa who aspire to represent their country. You are in a position to make a positive impact, not only to your life but to the lives of those who support you and who idolise you for your achievements. Make us truly proud! Right: Amajita retained the 2018 COSAFA U-20 Championship crown after defeating Mauritius (5 – 0) and eSwatini (4 – 0) in the group matches, Angola (1 – 0) in the semi-final and Zimbabwe on penalties in the final.
