TRESTLEBOARD A Chico Freemasons Tradition Since 1856 Published by Chico-Leland Stanford Lodge, No. 111, F&AM Vol. 165 No. 5 - December, 2021 From the East We’re coming to the end of my time in the East, yet there is more to accomplish. It’s my goal to speak with each of you before our Senior Warden, Bro. Story, takes on the responsibilities of W∴ M∴ in January. I’ll endeavor to call all of you, and I hope to see as many of you as possible in Lodge on the 14th,, at our last Stated for 2021. I have a token of appreciation for every Mason who can join us for dinner and the Stated meeting. While there are more than 50,000 members and about 330 lodges in California Freemasonry is a distant, unknown thing to most of the world. Perhaps you might make it a New Year’s resolution to help those around you unfamiliar with the Craft to come to a fuller understanding of it. I do. I’d also like to revive a celebration of the Holy Saints John, on Saturday, December 18th, 2021, at the Lodge, 0830 hours (8:30 a.m.). December 27th is the actual date the Evangelist’s day is celebrated. June 24th was the Baptist’s date, but it was too close to our re-opening for us to contemplate an unrestricted event. Invitations will be extended to any Lodge within a two hours drive. My most heartfelt wishes for peaceful, joyous and calm holidays for all of us, and may 2022 bring us many more occasions to meet, act and part as Brethren. -John L. Barneson III, W∴ M∴ Thursday December 2nd, at the Chico Masonic Family Center at 6:30pm. EVERYONE is welcome! Come support, play some games and have fun. A fun event for the whole family! Congratulations to our Golden Veteran Award Recipients for 50 years masonry brother’s Arbuckle and Caprealian!

Chico Nile Club It is so nice to be able to hold our meetings again and we have been busy working on our projects for OUR KIDS at Shriners Hospital Northern California. We had a delicious lunch at our November meeting and honored our Past Presidents at our meeting. Our December meeting will find us continuing our sewing and quilting projects and another delicious lunch is on the schedule as we celebrate the “Reasons for the Season”. Happy Holiday wishes to all of our Chico Masonic Family. We wish each of you and your families a joyful and healthy New Year. Jill Ramsey, President From the Board of Directors We continue to move forward, some hinderances but overall heading in the right direction. As the year comes to a close, I reflect back at the difficulties that were faced and look forward to a continued progress. Please keep an eye on an upcoming clean up day, hopefully sometime in December. Many lodge and appendant body members have put in effort and time helping the facility as we limped due to COVID and shutdowns. You are all very appreciated and we couldn’t have done it without all of you help. Our scheduled meetings are the first Monday of every month at 6pm in the library, ALL brothers are welcome to attend and see what we are up to. Happy Holidays to all! Dan Heal – Board President DeMolay Thank you to all our young men who continue to move the order forward. On behalf of DeMolay I wish you all happy holidays. -Michael Meyer - Youth Advisor

The Assembly will volunteer at the Food Locker to stock shelves for the holiday season. An Installation of Officers will be held on January 3, 2022. -Laura Ray, Mother Advisor Josephine Chico No. 104, OES Greetings of the Season to all of our Chico Masonic Family, Josephine Chico Chapter No. 104 has started a new year, finally. My name is Teresa Elliff and this is my first time serving as Worthy Matron. I am a Past Honored Queen of Bethel No. 326, Chico. And, a special thank you to Brother Darrel Hunter, who is our Worthy Patron in 2022, for your devotion to our Order. I look forward to working with all of our appendant and concordant bodies. Our meetings are the 2nd and 4th Wednesday and start at 7:30 p.m. Did you know that Eastern Star was created by a Master Mason, who felt that female relatives of Master Masons, should share, in a measure, the benefits from knowledge of the Masonic fraternity, which would benefit both men and women…? Our Brothers are necessary to our existence and we would be honored to have you join our Order. We would love to see our Star Brothers at our meetings. And, Oh Yes, you fella’s are eligible and we really need you. Did you know that the Grand Master, Jeff Wilkins, is a member of Eastern Star? We wish all a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2022. Teresa Elliff, Worthy Matron Darrel Hunter, Worthy Patron
We are Back for 2022!! Robert Burns Night Charity Dinner and Whisky Tasting Mark your Calendar for Saturday January 29th! The February 2020 dinner was wildly successful. Our lodge and Butte County Scottish Society will again be jointly hosting a Robert Burns Night Charity Dinner and Whisky Tasting at the Chico Masonic Family Center to support local charities and the Shrine Children’s Hospital in Sacramento. Burns Night is widely renowned as a commemoration of the famous Scottish poet and Mason Robert Burns' birthday. He is regarded as a pioneer of the Romantic movement, and after his death he became a great source of inspiration to the founders of both personal liberty, equality, and justice, and a cultural icon in Scotland and around the world. • A Burns Night dinner is celebrated with a feast showcasing the best of traditional Highlands cuisine and showcasing music, arts, humor, and single malt whisky tasting. • A formal sit down dinner will feature tri-tip or salmon, Haggis, all the trimmings and a traditional Scottish desert. Wine, Beer and Whisky will be on hand. Come for the fun of the bag pipes, Celtic music – featuring Ha Penney Bridge, humorous stories and Support the Local Charities and Shrine Hospital. The time of the event will be 5:00-10:00pm. Ticket sales will begin in late December. We hope you get the word out to your network and attend yourselves. There will only be seating for 225 people, don’t be left out! Any Questions?
