WHO WE ARE Since the inauguration of the Ghana South Africa Business Chamber in 2008, trade between the two countries has grown tremendously. The Ghana South Africa Business Chamber has been a veritable economic tool responsible for part of the increment in trade between Ghana and South Africa. The Ghana South Africa Business Chamber was established to promote and enhance trade, investment and cultural interactions between Ghana and South Africa. The Ghana South Africa Business Chamber consists of members from the various sectors: Mining, Trade, Financial Services, Real Estate and Construction, Energy, Health, Legal Services, Hospitality, Engineering, Agriculture and Agro Processing, Manufacturing, Import and Export Services, ICT, Education and Airline and Shipping services.
The Ghana-South Africa Business Chamber, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) and South African High Commission are organizing an outward trade mission from 20th – 28th June, 2018. The organizers have chosen Mpumalanga and Gauteng as provinces that will be visited by the delegation. The objective of the mission is to promote investment opportunities in Ghana and also to expose Ghanaian companies to opportunities available in South Africa. The delegation will participate in the seminars, business to business meetings and project visits that will be organized in each province. The delegation will consist of companies representing a selection of sectors such as; agriculture & agro- processing, tourism and hospitality management and service sector. DID YOU KNOW? Home to some of the country’s major coal-fired power stations, Mpumalanga is rich in coal reserves. The province produces around 80% of South Africa’s coal with eMalahleni being the biggest coal producer in Africa with two oil-from-coal plants. Mpumalanga is a large region for agriculture with many towns yielding crops such as cotton, tobacco, wheat and vegetables. The province also grows an abundance of citrus and other subtropical fruits such as mangoes, litchis, bananas and pawpaw’s, as well as nuts. . Mpumalanga is a region of spectacular and scenic beauty coupled with an abundance of wildlife. Bordered by Mozambique and Swaziland to the east and Gauteng to the west, it is situated mainly on the high plateau grasslands of the Middleveld. The province experiences summer rainfall with the occasional winter snowfall on high ground. Thick mist is common during the hot and humid summers. The capital of Mpumalanga is Mbombela (Nelspruit) and is the administrative and business hub of the Lowveld. Sabie and Graskop provide a large part of the country's forestry products of which the plantations form an ideal backdrop for ecotourism opportunities. There are a variety of popular hiking trails, waterfalls and patches of indigenous forest coupled with many nature reserves. Lake Chrissie is the largest natural freshwater lake in South Africa - famous for its variety of aquatic birds, including flamingos. Easily accessible with first-rate road and rail connections, Mpumalanga is a popular destination for many overseas visitors, with the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. Mpumalanga played a large role in the discovery of alluvial gold in 1873 near what is today Pilgrim’s Rest, and led the world’s biggest gold rush of the time.
