Townsville Basketball Page 3 FRESH LOCAL JUNIOR COMPETITION STRUCTURE Why are we changing the Junior Competition Structure? Our current season structure makes it hard to attract new members from other sports as our seasons overlap all major sports in Townsville. There has been no growth in junior player registrations since 2014. There is evidence from other associations in Queensland and other parts of the counrty that this new structure has led to increases in membership. When we return to the court (currently planned for Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July) we will complete the 2020 Patrons Cup Season with the remaining 6 rounds and finals to be played on Saturday 5th September. Townsville Junior Basketball will then commence its new life with the beginning of the annual competition calendar changing from October 1st each year with a new Summer Season (formerly Patrons Cup) and Winter Season (formerly Championship Season). The Summer Season will commence in 2020 on 10th/11th October with 8 rounds played before the mid season break then resuming on 30th/31st January for 4 rounds before finals. The Winter Season will commence in 2021 on the 24th April with 12 rounds played before finals on 4th September 2021. The age groups will revert to the previously used even ages from U8's to U18's to line up with the Junior Representative Program.
