2020 Tennis at GYC Continued from Page 1 Fortunately, we still have courts available for member players / families at any time and also lessons, etc. through our GYC pro Billy Previdi. No matter what kind of tennis you are looking for, whether clinics, lessons, or opponents, you can contact him. He is able to work with all skill and age levels and will be happy to help you with your game, finding a group, court reservations, your racquet, and any other tennis inquiries. He aims to make the best of this situation. Billy also continues to offer a one- time opportunity for each GYC member of 30 minutes time hitting with him free of charge to evaluate your level and help in guiding your game with some lesson plans going forward or even some other players at your level you might enjoy hitting with. Eventually, as tennis opens up, Billy could assist in looping you into a group situation commensurate with your level of play. You can contact him at his cell (203) 641-9470 or his email previdib@gmail.com. The best way to reach him is by texting him with questions, sign ups, etc. Meet Billy Billy Previdi began his tennis career at the age of 15 at the Port Washington Tennis Academy under the direction of the legendary Harry Hopman. Bill attended St. John’s University in New York on a tennis scholarship and played for George Seewagen, a member of the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Hall of Fame. He began teaching part-time during college and decided to make it his career. He was appointed Head Pro at the Guilford Racquet and Swim Club in Connecticut at the age of 24 and remained in that position for 26 years. During that time, he began working on a system for playing and teaching doubles. From that work came The Previti System… Doubles for Smart Players. Billy has created a comprehensive program of drills and games to perfect the techniques, tactics, and positioning that will make for a coherent way to play doubles. Although Billy continues to teach players and groups of all ages, his passion is for doubles and for teaching it to adult players. Billy has also been a successful high school and college coach. A few years ago, Billy also developed a program called Point Play, the Competitive Tennis Workout. It is a game for 6 players and, in an hour and a half, players get a workout, play a high energy, competitive game, and have fun while making new friends. Many clubs in Connecticut are now playing this game Billy Previdi, and Billy runs at least 10 groups a week at this club.Billy is passionate about playing tennis as well. He continues to play as Tennis Pro much as possible and has been nationally ranked in singles, doubles, and father-son doubles. Billy and his son Matt were ranked #1 in New England and #20 in the nation in 2008.
GYC’S BEAUTIFUL HAR – TRU COURTS WILL BE OPENING BY JUNE 3RD! THE FOLLOWING SAFETY GUIDELINES ARE DUE TO COVID -19 AND MUST BE FOLLOWED: No congregating before or after play as the court side area should be an area where people can be coming to use courts and leaving after play, while still able to socially distance from others. Keep the gates to the two courts open so no need for opening/closing by multiple people. Bring your own hand sanitizer, beverage supply, and gloves for the use of shared court sweepers. Use the tennis curtain so balls being used by one court are kept separate from the other. Normal play is encouraged between co-habitants. Non co-habitants are encouraged to play singles. USTA suggests that each player bring a can of balls that are either a different brand or numbered differently. If not, mark the balls with a sharpie so that one player’s balls can be differentiated from the others. Only serve with the balls assigned to you. If a player’s needed balls are on your side of the court, use a tennis racket and ankle to lift the ball and hit it back over or using your racket, roll the ball back to the other player. It is not known whether covid-19 can easily live on a tennis ball, but to be safe, a shared ball is discouraged. Sweat bands on head and wrists are a good idea for sweat management (vs wiping with hands). Other options are, as always, to join one of Billy Previdi’s groups where he will be managing all balls to prevent any potential cross-contamination between players: Private lessons Semi – private lessons Point play (for families / co-habitants of 6) A four - person variation of point play. Players will not serve, as Billy will be doing the serving / starting each point. No player will have contact with the tennis balls other than with their racquet. Fun and competitive while distancing within 6 feet of other players and avoiding a shared ball. THESE GUIDELINES ARE INFORMED BY USTA GUIDELINES FOR BOTH PLAYERS AND COACHES, STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT, AND PUBLIC HEALTH DIRECTIVES
