In the summer of 2014, Troop 002 would be hiking to the island’s backcountry. Now a teenager, I found life easy. I had grown up in the same house, with the same friends, and done the same things. I was bored. Where was the adventure? Another dull hiking trip. How could I learn to fight life’s battles and open doors on my own? How wrong I would be. WWW.LEGACYPARK.ORG Thank you, Mr Higgins. Thank you for being a role model who my Scouting brethren and I can always look up to. Thank you for dedicating yourself to Troop 002 and Scouts BSA to help us kids flourish into adults who better the world around us. The impact you made on not just me, but every member of our Troop, old and young, will forever be cherished and remembered. Your name, Jeff Higgins, will be carved in the tree that helped me and many others grow into the Eagle Scouts we are today. Thank you. From Max Wender When I think of Jeff Higgins, I think of a man and Scoutmaster whose patience, knowledge, and passion I’m proud to have become an Eagle Scout under Jeff for the betterment of others forever inspires me to be a Higgins. Higgins supported me and I’m thankful for all he’s done for the young men of the Troop - Ben Schuller better Scout and person. Thank you for everything, Mr. Higgins! From Sam Wender Thank you for making the transition to troop 002 such a smooth one, and thank you for all of your assistance and guidance with the push to Eagle! From Zach Wender A truckload of “thank-yous” to Jeff Higgins for his tireless work as Scoutmaster of Troop 002 for the past 11? years. He’s left an indelible mark on my 3 Eagle Scouts and countless other young people. His dedication, integrity, and character will be forever remembered and appreciated. Thank you for everything, Jeff. You’re my Scouting hero! Anne Wender My son has been in the troop for over 2 years now, but close to half of that time has been during Covid! Scouts was the one “normal” thing that we continued. Meeting via zoom first and then outside, having outside campouts to see friends - I really believe it helped all the boys adjust and deal with the Covid world. Jeff goes on pretty much every campout, is at pretty much every meeting and event, and is always available to the scouts and the parents. I’m still relatively new to primitive camping, and Jeff always gives me advice and has answers for even my oddball questions! And as the token female for most events, he has always made me feel welcome and part of the group. I’ve been taking on more administrative roles for the troop, and I email and text both Jeff and Patrick Devlin so many questions! And they both have always answered me promptly and thoroughly! They truly are a wealth of knowledge. And I’ve never felt like anything I’ve asked is a “stupid” question. Or felt like I’m bothering them. Troop 002 has been lucky to have Jeff’s leadership. He has been a huge influence in many boys’ lives, and I know that they will remember and appreciate him even more as they become adults! Mary Johnson LEGACY PARK 13 J U L Y 2 0 21
