US imposes fresh sanctions against Russia over Navalny issue The United States has slapped sanctions on Russian individuals and entities over the near-fatal poisoning of prominent opposition figure Alexei Navalny with a nerve agent. The sanctions were being imposed in coordination with the European Union, and urged the release of Navalny from prison. The white house said these sanctions mark the first of several steps by the Biden administration to respond to a number of destabilizing actions. Alexei Anatolievich Navalny is a Russian opposition leader, lawyer, and anti-corruption activist. He came to international prominence by organizing anti-government demonstrations and running for office to advocate reforms against corruption in Russia, and against President Vladimir Putin and his government. The National Safety Day (NSD) is celebrated every year on March 4 by the National Safety Council (NSC) of India. In 2021, we are observing the 50th NSD. The day aims to develop a sense of safety awareness among people by providing them with safety, health and environment related support services. The day is also celebrated to mark the foundation of the National Safety Council, which was set up on 4th March, 1966 by the Ministry of Labour, Government of India. 2021 Theme: “Sadak Suraksha (Road Safety)”. Indian Scientists design & develop low-cost optical spectrograph Indian Scientists have designed and developed a low-cost optical spectrograph. The spectrograph can locate sources of faint light from distant quasars and galaxies. It is one of the the largest astronomical spectrographs in the country and has been successfully commissioned on the 3.6-Metre Devasthal Optical Telescope near Nainital Uttarakhand. A spectrograph is an instrument used to obtain and record an astronomical spectrum. Union Cabinet apprised of the signing of MoU between India, French Republic in field of renewable energy cooperation The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was apprised of the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and French Republic in the field of renewable energy cooperation. The MoU was signed in January this year. The objective of the MoU is to establish the basis for promotion of bilateral cooperation in the field of new and renewable energy on the basis of mutual benefit, equality and reciprocity. It covers technologies relating to solar, wind, hydrogen and biomass energy. The MoU will help in the development of technological know-how in the field of Renewable Energy and will aid the process of attaining the target of 450 GW of installed Renewable Energy capacity by 2030. This was stated by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal while addressing the Maritime India Summit-2021. The government is working on multi-modal logistical solutions to bring down the cost of transportation and increase the supply chain efficiency. The Minister said, integration of Road, Rail and Waterways can truly make India ‘One Nation, One Market, One Supply’. “Gharoki Pechan, Chelik Naam” Scheme launched in Nainital In Uttarakhand, the Chief Minister, Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat has launched “Gharoki Paachan, Chelik Naam” (daughter”s name is a home”s identity) programme and development schemes. Initially, the scheme has been launched in Nainital and will be extended to entire Uttarakhand in the coming weeks. The government has allocated Rs 42 crore for this scheme. This scheme is in line with the effort of the state government towards promoting women empowerment. Around 32,000 women groups of the state are being linked with self-employment to make them self- reliant. Mumbai's CSMT becomes first railway station to get IGBC Gold Certification Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Railway Station of Central Railway is the first railway station in Maharashtra to be awarded with Gold certification as per CII’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) ratings. Central Railway has implemented various green initiatives across its zone, with plantations creating green areas, installation of solar panels, customer-friendly initiatives at many stations, LED bulbs and lights etc.
The rating system gives impetus to the national priorities like energy efficiency, water conservation, handling of waste measures and motivates the adoption of green standards for buildings and its environment. Mumbai City beat ATK Mohun Bagan to win 2020-21 ISL League Winners Shield The football club Mumbai City FC defeated ATK Mohun Bagan 2-0 in the final league game to clinch the 2020- 21 Indian Super League (ISL) Winners Shield. The finals of the ISL was held at the GMC Stadium in Goa. With this win, Mumbai City FC has booked a spot in the AFC Champions League.
